Global Summit of Online Knowledge Networks
Eight actions were recommended by 300 delegates
to the Global Summit of Online Knowledge Networks
hosted by education.au and held in Adelaide,
Australia on 4 and 5 March 2002 in association
with the World Congress on Information Technology.
28
Recommendations
Delegates recommended that, to ensure the
effective development and use of online services
and resources in education and training, we need
to
  • Spread the word about the benefits of online
    services
  • Establish, develop and extend online communities
  • Reconceptualise the role of teachers and teaching
  • Draw on government and institutional frameworks
    and resources
  • Demystify online education and training services
  • Establish online knowledge standards
  • Develop ICT across education and training sector
    boundaries
  • Establish a seamless global learning framework

29
Global Gateways in education training
Global Gateways A Guide to Online Knowledge
Networks is a first attempt at mapping and
analysing parallel developments in online
services around the world.
Developed as a resource for the Global Summit,
the guide is the result of a research project
undertaken by the Australian Council for
Educational Research on behalf of education.au.
30
Global Gateways Guide
  •  The project is a world first by providing
  • a listing of close to 200 educational networks
    from around the world
  • categories, terminology and criteria to define
    and compare these networks
  • profiles of network users

Searchers Explorers Self improvers Participators
31
The Global Gateways Guide is an evolving
potentially collaborative resource that lists
education networks managed by
Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Estonia, The
European Community, Finland, France, Germany,
Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan,
Korea, Latin America (laborum.com), Namibia, The
Netherlands, New Zealand, The Nordic Community,
