In the 1920s sales offices are opened in Oslo,
Malmö, Stockholm, Helsinki and Sankt Petersborg.
By 1930 the Oticon product range consists of
hearing aids, church hearing aids and hospital
systems, including patient radio receivers. Here

By 1940, during the Second World War, Oticon is
employing 16 people. As a result of the German
trade blockade it becomes impossible to import
hearing aids from the US. William Demant starts
his own production in Copenhagen manufacturing an
exact copy of the Acousticon hearing aid. The
first true Oticon hearing aid - the Oticon model
TA - is introduced in 1946.

The transistor is invented at Bell laboratories
in 1947, and in 1953 some of the first
transistorized hearing instruments are
introduced. This new development means a
fantastic improvement for people with hearing
loss. The Oticon T3 from 1953 is the first
transistorized instrument in Europe.

In 1957, William Demant and his wife donate their
Oticon stock to a foundation called the William
Demant Ida Emilie Foundation, later also known
as the Oticon Foundation.

The developments in hearing instrument technology
allows a number of revolutionary breakthroughs in
the past couple of years. Among them MultiFocus,
the first fully automatic hearing aid, DigiFocus,
the first fully digital hearing aid and Adapto,
the first hearing aid that understands people.

first knowledge-based spaghetti organization
was introduced in 1991 a flat, dynamic structure
well suited for the realization of ideas.
