Combined BA/MD Degree ProgramOverview
  • Partnership degree program between the School of
    Medicine and the College of Arts Sciences
  • Program designed to help alleviate New Mexicos
    physician shortage, especially in our
    medically-underserved areas
  • Expands medical school class from 75 to 100
    students
  • Admit a diverse class of 28 NM high school
    seniors with a commitment to practicing medicine
    in NM communities with the greatest need
  • Current Update 4 classes currently enrolled in
    undergraduate BA/MD program 1st class of
    medical students to enter in 2010 2 BA/MD
    students completed undergraduate program May 2009
    entered the UNM School of Medicine in fall
    2009.

Admissions
  • Admission to the BA/MD Program is based on a
    combination of factors
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving New Mexicans
    (i.e. Community involvement volunteer service)
  • Desire to serve New Mexico communities that are
    medically-underserved
  • Academic Excellence
  • (Required) Math ACT sub-score of 22 or Math SAT
    sub-score of 510
  • Honors and awards
  • Leadership Skills
  • Personal statement
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Applicants achieving the required Math ACT or SAT
    subscore (by Nov 15th) will automatically be
    invited to interview.
  • BA/MD Admissions Committee
  • Comprised of (approx) School of Medicine faculty,
    College of Arts Sciences faculty and community
    members. BA/MD Application Deadline is November
    15th (of the applicants senior year) Online
