- Imperialism is when a country takes over another
country. European countries took over countries
and regions all over the world. They did this to
control resources and also to compete with other
European countries.

- Imperialism was made possible by the industrial
revolution. The industrial revolution was a
period of time from the late 18th to mid 19th
centuries when machines replaced human labor in
Europe.

- The most important machine invented in Europe at
this time was the steam engine. With the steam
engine Europeans could make trains, steamships,
better mining equipment, and eventually better
weapons. This allowed them to take over other
