2- DEFINITIONS AND BASIC CHEMISTRY
- Unmodified concrete is a mixture of Portland
cement water inert filler (sand, stone,
etc.). - Concrete curing is due to hydration, a chemical
reaction between Portland cement and water. - Stoichiometric weight ratio of water/cement
required for complete hydration is 0.28. - Additional water is always present to give
fluidity, but later evaporates to leave voids
(weak spots).
