STUDENT LIFE DIVISION
  • Cedarville University is equipping the next
generation of Christian leaders. This effort
extends well beyond the walls of the classroom.
The Student Life Division oversees over 70
student organizations. We sponsor concerts with
groups like the Newsboys, Third Day, David
Crowder, Toby Mac, and Switchfoot, along with a
full range of other student activities. Through
FOCUS Leadership, we are also intentional about
    assisting students in developing strong
leadership skills. Our strong residence life
program accommodates over 2,500 students on
campus and provides a great context for building
    lifelong friendships. Cedarville is nationally
recognized for providing a supportive environment
for our students. We provide a full range of
    services including confidential counseling,
career services, and a full-service health clinic

Jesus and the Scriptures
  • They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus
was walking in the temple courts, the chief
priests, the teachers of the law and the elders
came to him. "By what authority are you doing
these things?" they asked. "And who gave you
authority to do this?"  Jesus replied, "I will
ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell
you by what authority I am doing these things.
John's baptismwas it from heaven, or from men?
    Tell me!
  • They discussed it among themselves and said, "If
we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why
didn't you believe him? But if we say, 'From
men'...." (They feared the people, for everyone
held that John really was a prophet.)
  • So they answered Jesus, "We don't know."
  • Jesus said, "Neither will I tell you by what
authority I am doing these things."
  • Mark 1127-33

Jesus and the Scriptures
  • Later they sent some of the Pharisees and
Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.
They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know you
are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men,
because you pay no attention to who they are but
you teach the way of God in accordance with the
truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?
Should we pay or shouldn't we?"    But Jesus knew
their hypocrisy. "Why are you trying to trap me?"
he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at
it. They brought the coin, and he asked them,
"Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"
  • "Caesar's," they replied.
  • Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is
Caesar's and to God what is God's."
  • And they were amazed at him.
  • Mark 1213-17

13
Jesus and the Scriptures
  • Then the Sadducees, who say there is no
resurrection, came to him with a question.
  • "Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that
if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no
children, the man must marry the widow and have
children for his brother. Now there were seven
brothers. The first one married and died without
leaving any children. The second one married the
widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was
the same with the third. In fact, none of the
seven left any children. Last of all, the woman
died too. At the resurrection whose wife will she
be, since the seven were married to her?"
  • Mark 1218-23

14
Jesus and the Scriptures
  • Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you
do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor
be given in marriage they will be like the
angels in heaven. Now about the dead risinghave
you not read in the book of Moses, in the account
of the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God
of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of
Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the
    living. You are badly mistaken!
  • Mark 1224-27

15
Jesus and the Scriptures
Scripture cannot be broken (John 1035). I
tell you the truth, until heaven and earth
disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least
stroke of a pen will disappear from the Law until
everything is accomplished (Matthew 518).
16
Jesus and the Scriptures
Jesus spoke of . . . Adam and Eve the
death of Abel Noah and the Flood the
destruction of Sodom Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob the burning bush David Solomon
wilderness wanderings manna from
heaven Lots wife Jonah and the great
fish
17
Jesus and the Scriptures
So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked
Jesus, "Why don't your disciples live according
to the tradition of the elders instead of eating
their food with 'unclean' hands?" He replied,
"Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you
hypocrites as it is written     These people
honor me with their lips,       but their hearts
are far from me.   They worship me in vain
their teachings are but rules taught by
men. You have let go of the commands of God and
are holding on to the traditions of men. And he
said to them You have a fine way of setting
aside the commands of God in order to observe
your own traditions! Mark
75-9
