Integrating Information Technology Competency in
Liberal Arts Courses
Arts vs non-Arts Computing Skills
Do liberal arts students lack the information
technology (IT) skills they need when they enter
the world of work? The Technology Edge project
has surveyed students to discover their computing
skills, and discussed with employers their
expectations. We report that Arts students have
adequate basic computing skills, and we have
developed a set of instructional activities which
will provide training in all IT skills areas.
Technology Edge training materials are being
piloted this fall in three academic courses, and
we are working toward a formal certification of
IT skills for Arts students.
