• Rainsford finds himself on Ship Trap Island after
  falling off a yacht.

Rising Action

• Rainsford falls off of the yacht and into the
  ocean after hearing a pistol shot in the
  distance.
• He swims in the direction of the shot and finds
  Ship Trap Island.
• Rainsford meets General Zaroff and Ivan on the
  island.
• The General treats Rainsford to dinner and sleep.

Conflict
Rainsford is trapped on the island with General
Zaroff who proposes a hunting game that lasts
three days. Rainsford is forced to run from
General Zaroff while the general tries to kill
him.

THE HUNT BEGINS

Falling Action

• Rainsford sets a trap that injures Zaroff's
  shoulder.
• Rainsford is trapped in quicksand in Death Swamp.
• Rainsford sets another trap that kills Zaroff's
  quarry (hunting dogs).
