Background of NCLB
  • It attempts to reform the public education system
  • It is a revised version of the 1965 Elementary
    and Secondary Education Act
  • President Bush signed bill on January 8, 2002
  • It allocates 26.5 billion for education

Main Objective of NCLB
  • Test students to measure their proficiency
  • Tests are designed by states
  • Grades 3-8 are tested annually
  • Tests cover math, reading, eventually science

  • Progress will be measured annually by tests
  • School districts decide how to use up to 50 of
    federal funds they receive

    to 68
  • 8 in 10 students say test preparation does not
    interfere with usual work
  • 62 of teachers support standardized tests as an
    effective measurement tool
