• The study was based on 108 serial rape cases,
  comprising 565 rapes. (mean of 5 rapes per
  individual)
• Some of the significant findings were
• rapists living and raping within one urban area
  generally lived within 5 kilometers of their
  offenses, and traveled no farther than 7.8 km to
  perpetrate their crimes.
• Almost half of all rapists attacked within one
  half mile of their home.
• About half of the rapist's quantifiable behaviors
  remain consistent over subsequent rapes, the
  other half were only minimally consistent
• A more experienced rapist will generally
  demonstrate more preparation, greater efforts to
  protect his identity, and a more common use of
  bindings.

• The research was based on 20 men responsible for
  149 murders throughout the United States
  and Canada.
• All showed enduring patterns of sexual arousal to
  images of suffering.
• Their murders, remarkably consistent over time,
  reflected sexual arousal to the pain, fear and
  panic of their victims.
• Some of the men reported that the sense of being
  God-like and in control of the life and death of
  another human being to be one of the most
  exhilarating aspects of their crimes

• 95 percent were white males and 65 percent came
  from middle class backgrounds.
• 95 had no arrest record prior to their arrest
  for murder.
• Majority displayed numerous other paraphilias
• -- voyeurism, obscene phone calls,
  exhibitionism and fetishism --
• 85 percent showed consistent violent fantasies,
  featuring a ritualized, repetitive core.
• 75 percent kept collections of a violent theme,
  including audiotapes, videotapes, pictures or
  sketches of the subject's sadistic acts, sexually
  sadistic pornography or various types of weapons.
• Finally, it was shown that the majority of these
  men engaged in extensive patterns of anti-social
  behavior in adult life, suggesting that their
  criminal behavior extends from character
  pathology rather than psychosis.
