Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 1. Cell Wall The outermost part of a plant
cell. It is a hard wall that is made up of many
sugars ( polysaccharides). It helps the cell
maintain its shape and it protects the cell.

Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 2. Cell Membrane Every cell is enclosed by a
membrane. The cell membrane is a double layer of
lipids (lipid bi-layer) and is also made of
proteins. The cell membrane allows materials in
    and out of the cell.

5
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 3. Nucleus (membrane bound) The nucleus
contains the DNA and directs the cells
    activities.

6
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 4. Nuclear Envelope - A membrane that surrounds
    and protects the nucleus.

7
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 5. Chromatin - Thin strands in the nucleus that
    contain genetic material.

8
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 6. Nucleolus This is where the ribosomes are
    made.

9
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 7. Cytoplasm The cytoplasm is the soup inside
the cell. The cytoplasm is made mostly of
proteins and water. The cell communicates
    through the cytoplasm.

10
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 8. Mitochondrion Converts carbohydrates to
    energy for the cell.

11
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 9. Endoplasmic Reticulum (membrane bound) It
carries material from one part of the cell to
    another.

12
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 10. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum This part of
the ER contains ribosomes that were made in the
nucleolus. This is the site of protein
    production.

13
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 11. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum This part of
the ER lacks ribosomes and is the site of lipid
    production.

14
Parts of a Plant Cell
15
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 12. Ribosomes These are found on the RER and
throughout the cell. Ribosomes are factories
    that assemble proteins.

16
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 13. Golgi Body This receives material from the
ER for packaging and distributes them to other
parts of the cell (the mail room).

17
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 14. Chloroplasts Large green structures that
contain chlorophyll and is the site of
    photosynthesis. They produce food
    (carbohydrates) for the cell.

18
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 15. Vaculoes Large storage area in the cell
where food, water, and/or waste is stored.

19
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 16. Cytoskeleton Protein fibers that aid in the
internal movement of cell organelles, as well as
    muscle fiber contraction.

20
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 17. Centrosome Aids in cell division.

21
Parts of a Plant Cell
  • 18. Lysosomes Small round structures that
contain chemicals that aid in breaking down large
    food particles into smaller particles.

24
Parts of an Animal Cell
  • 1. Cell Membrane See plant cell. Notice an
animal cell has NO cell wall.

Parts of a Bacterial Cell
  • 1. Nucleoid This is not membrane bound and is
generally where the DNA is located. Notice there
is no nucleus in a bacterial cell.
