2Class Assignments
By When
What
- Due this class period
- Due next class period
- Due in the future
3Velocity
- Description of both speed and direction of motion
- Vector
- Velocity can change
- Due to change in speed
- Due to change in direction
4Chapter 11 Quiz Review
5Motion Lab
- Walking velocity
- 10 m distance
- 1 m increments
- Jobs walker, timer, recorder
- Walker starts behind the start line
- Walks 10 m
- Timer
- starts watch and calls out time at each meter
- Recorder
- Writes down times for walker
6Acceleration
- The rate at which velocity changes
- Changes in speed, direction, or both
- Acceleration is a vector
- Can be an increase or a decrease
- SI units
- Meters per second per second
- m/s2
7Acceleration
- Figuring acceleration
- a (vf-vi)/t
- a acceleration
- vf final velocity
- vi initial velocity
- t time
8Find the acceleration
- 2005 Ford GT
- 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds
- 1971 Ford Pinto
- 0-60 mph in 18.0 seconds
- 2002 Chevrolet Corvette
- 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds
- 1980 Chevrolet Chevette
- 0-60 mph in 15.8 seconds
9Speed (mph)
Time (s)
10Interest Grabber
Section 11.3
- Speed-Time Graphs
- The speed an object travels in a period of time
can be expressed on a graph. This type of graph
can give useful information about the objects
motion. The speed-time graph of the object in
Section 11.2 Interest Grabber is shown below.
1. Describe the speed of the object shown on the
graph. 2. The slope of the line on a
distance-time graph represents the change in
distance (m) per the change in time (s). Thus,
the slope of a distance-time graph gives speed
(m/s). What information does the slope of a
speed-time graph give you? 3. What is the slope
of the line on the speed-time graph?
11Lab Reports
- Lab Journal
- Table of contents
- Experiment number, title of experiment, and page
number in the notebook - Use on front sides of pages, do not skip pages
-
-
12Prelab Preparations
- List your name, your partners name, and class
period in the upper right hand corner of the page
- First section
- Purpose/Question
- Typically a single sentence
- Hypothesis
- What do you think the answer to your questions
is? - Rationale
- Why do you think your hypothesis is correct?
- Skip a line between each answer and three between
section 1 and section 2
13Prelab Preparations
- Second Section
- Materials
- List all materials used
- Procedure
- Summarize the procedure used for the
investigation - Can be a list or flow chart needs to be easily
read - Getting Ready
- 1. What potential procedural problems do I want
to avoid to eliminate error? - 2. What safety precautions must be taken?
- 3. How will I analyze the data?
- Be specific
Skip a line between each answer and three between
section 2 and section 3
14Prelab preparation
- Sections 1 and 2 can (and should) be completed
prior to coming to class - They must be initialed by a teacher as completed
before you can start the lab! - Section 3 can be prepared before class, but not
completed
15Third Section
- Results
- Dominated by tables/drawings
- Construct the table clearly (use a ruler)
- Information should be written as collected
- Not copied from lab partner at a later time
- Must be clearly labeled and include units
- Statements for observations
16Third Section
- Analysis
- Show your work from Statement 3 of getting
ready - Sample calculation
- Word equation
- Quantatitive equation
- Graphs (of data in tables)
- Number and title graphs
- Neat and sized appropriately
- Axis labeled with units
- Independent on x an dependent on y
17Fourth Section
- Conclusion
- What is the significance or meaning of the
results? - Written in third person passive
- Summarize the results
- Detailed discussion of the results
- How do the results compare to what you expected?
- Can compare with results of others
- What factors might have contributed to errors in
the results - Analyze experimental error
18Walking/Car Lab
- Set up notebooks and begin prelab
19Questions
Page types (sections) The default template
contains 3 sections Class Topics, Questions and
Class Assignments. You can change the title of
the Class Topics, Questions and Action-Items
Slides. This will change the sections names and
will be reflected in the Go-To Touch Menu. Up to
3 sections are available (you may remove some of
them).
- Creating your own Tegrity templates
- Start with a Tegrity supplied template (e.g
Tegrity Class.pot). - Change the Look Feel.
- Change the Section slides title to fit your needs
(Do not delete and insert other slides). - Save the file as type Presentation
