objects/products in their respective areas in a

7
ISO/IEC JWG1 - Scope
  • Produce the ISO/IEC guide
  • Make recommendations on how to monitor
consistency of the work items using this guide in
    all ISO/IEC TCs
  • Make proposals on the publication of standards
    as online databases
  • Maintain a publicly accessible issues log
  • Review this guide in order to integrate feedbacks
from product ISO/IEC TCs (after the first TCs
    dictionary standards are published)

    properties and families.
  • Application guidance for specification of product
    properties and families for users
  • Proposals on the publication of standards as

  • Proposal for common maintenance and validation
procedures to manage items in ISO-IEC online
dictionaries (which should be established in the
    ISO/IEC directives)

Key ISO developments
  • New projects must declare timescales - 2/3/4
    years
  • Automatic cancellation if miss DIS or FDIS by
    more than six months
  • New cancellation rules now in place
  • Cancellation if not at DIS after 5 years
  • Cancellation after no progress for 2 years
    against ISO stages
  • New SVAT forms - awaited
  • Implementation survey proposal - waiting for TMB
  • Proposals for reduced DIS ballot period
  • New ISO Advisory Group on Security

10
ISO TMB - 5 year rule
  • If a project does not produce a draft for DIS
ballot (stage 30.99) in an acceptable form within
five years of registration of a New Work Item
(10.99), the project will be cancelled
automatically by ISO three months after that
    deadline, unless
  • a DIS document has been delivered, and
  • the corresponding CD was registered not more than
    six months before the deadline.
  • If a project does not produce a document for FDIS
ballot (or publication in the extent of 100
approval at DIS) (stage 40.99) within five years
of registration of a New Work Item (10.99), and
no progress has been made in the year prior to
that deadline, the project will be cancelled
automatically by ISO three months after the
deadline, unless the final document has been
    delivered to ISO.

11
ISO TMB - 2 year rule
  • Work items which have not advanced to a new ISO
stage for two years or longer shall be cancelled
    automatically by the Central Secretariat.
  • The Central Secretariat will notify SC4 when a
work item has not moved for one year, and this
list will be circulated to the project leaders
    concerned.
  • Projects which have been cancelled automatically
can be re-instated as new projects if they are
re-balloted as new work item proposals and if the
necessary support is secured from at least five
member bodies who wish to participate actively in
    the development of the project.

12

Standards as databases (TMB 75/2003)
  • The Technical Management Board,
  • noting the proposal to publish ISO Standards in
certain fields, such as graphical symbols,
country and currency codes etc. as databases,
  • approves this proposal in principle,
  • agrees that a maintenance agency approach should
be applied to keep the databases up to date,
  • underlines the need for close cooperation between
the ISO committee and the maintenance agency,
  • and notes that each standard proposed for
publication in this form will be submitted to the
    TMB for approval

    specifications

  • Modules to be published individually, followed by
CD-ROM package of AP and modules
  • Niche market packages of APs
  • STEP CD-ROM
  • Any proposal for free-of-charge standards would
need to be clearly and simply presented,
    addressing

    standards
  • the possible impact on NSB revenue
