2Introduction
- A trend of communication media.
- Increase of the importance of the small amount
of bits stream information.
3Communication Media
- The trend of the market of the information
services from the point of view communication
media

5Telephone Era.
- Telephone was invented in 1876.
- At first telephone was criticized.
- But now, many people spent much time using
telephones despite the fact that telephone
communication lacks expression, body language,
and relies solely on someone's voice.

6E-mail Era
- In 1970 e-mail appeared and began to boom.
- In 1999, the amount of information exchanged
globally by e-mail is larger than the amount
communicated by telephone in the U.S.

7ICQ/ IM (Instant Message) Era
- In the year 2000 ICQ/ IM is the mainstream mode
of communication media. - AOL currently has 40,000,000 members, ICQ
currently has 38,000,000 members, for a total of
about 80,000,000 members who are exchanging
8,500,000,000 messages per day.

8Small Bits
- To use the least amount of information.
- The mode of communication media which requires
the least amount of information pushes out the
previous generation mode of communication media.

9In 2010, PING Era
- I definitely think that in the year 2010, only 1
bit of information will be the main traffic on
the net. - We will call this signal or indicator "ping."

10Important Points of the Ping?
- Ping new sense of value.
- There are three points.
- Nobody want to bother someone.
- No message to other person.
- Full schedule of 24 hours.
11No One Wants to Bother Someone
12Nobody Has a Message or Something, Everyday
13Full Schedule of 24 Hours.
- Most important point in the market.
- Time management will become more and more
important in daily life for people. - If you want to have someone use your new media,
that media should be fight with Nintendo!
14Ping Is the New Communication Trend
- Even if the network is enriched, will TV phones
suddenly overtake in popularity all other
communication medias? I don't think so. - TV phone users will definitely increase in the
future but that doesn't guarantee that TV phones
will become a mainstream mode of communication
media. - Ping will be get many users. Ping signals will
become a mainstream in the next generation
internet. Because this media create a signal
automatically and continuously.
15Not Only Media
- In summery, I talked about the a new
communication media trend that is ping. - My conclusions is.
- We should sight the small bits media.
- However, this is not only communication media
but also the possibility of the idea of small
bits strongly suggest a brand-new market for
information services in near future.
16Interaction Cost
17What Is Real Breakthrough?
- Nowadays, many people argue about what the next
generation internet. They think, there will be a
huge communication cable provided globally for
satellite medicine, satellite conferences, etc...
In the future. Visual data use (like TV phones)
will increase more than you can imagine. - Compare with it, most important thing is we can
send only 1 bit by suitable cost for only 1 bit.
Its not we can send a large data stream for
multi media. - The most important thing that happened was that
the cost to transmit data has been lowered
according to its size. In other words, today we
can send small data for almost free.
18PUBi and Information Board
- Therefore we should make a tiny device to connect
between end-application and broadband network. - This device doesnt have a display but it has
CPU, memory, some buttons, I/O, battery and ID. - Target cost should be under 10. (Thats suitable
device for tiny end applications.)
19New software model is needed
- Server Client
- Distributed, Concurrent, Parallel
- Connectionist, Agent Oriented
- PUBi Information Board Server
20PUBi, IB and Server
- The Information board works as
- A display for your tiny devices.
- A poster column for your advertisement.
- An information KIOSK.
- A clipboard. You can exchange your data to
someone via the board like you can exchange data
between WORD and PowerPoint on the Windows98. - An antenna base or gateway for the wireless
devices network without huge budget. Because a
manager of a shop will buy it! - A lighthouse for the personal navigation system.
Ordinary, this board displays general info. When
a user approach the board, it will display
individual information.
E-coupon, Scheduler, Game, E-ticket, Etc. It
looks like a ticket for using network information
services on our server.

22Conclusion
- Small bits market is an undeveloped area.
- Its a gold mine.
- Real breakthrough is to reduce the cost to send
small bits. - Dont be seduced the multi media and large bits
stream! We need a small and poor but inexpensive
device for a user! - We should make a tiny hardware as a ticket to use
any information service on our server.
