CENTERNAVIGATION GUIDE
Click on the right arrow on your keyboard to
advance this presentation

You received this Guide because you have
completed the registration process. Your user
id and password were included in the accompanying
email message.

You will be required to change your password if
you are a first-time user or if you have asked
that your password be reset.
  • Enter the temporary password you were mailed,
  • Then enter the new password you have created
    two times.

Once your password has been changed, write it
down! Then click on HOME to go to the home page.
You will see messages and announcements on this
page. To begin the course, click on COURSEWORK.

Four Absolute Essentials
  • Please log out rather than simply closing the
    program. If you accidentally close rather than
    logging out, you will see the message below.
    Dont panic, simply enter your password a second
    time and proceed.

Enter your user name and temporary password.

  • If you start a quiz, you must complete it,
    otherwise your results will not be saved. One
    option, if you dont have time to complete a quiz
    that requires written responses is to save the
    responses in Word, then copy and paste them into
    the quiz at another time.
  • Use the navigation links on the upper right side
    of the page if you get lost.
  • The link on the far left will always take you to
    the Table of Contents (TOC) for the entire course
  • The next link will take you to the unit TOC.
  • The unlinked title names the page you are
    currently using.

  • The Table of Contents will show NEW items (units
    you have not opened) and U or unfinished items
    (units that contain pages you have not opened)

  • HELP topics include the following
  • Your Online Learning Home Page
  • Using the Table of Contents
  • Using the NAVIGATION BAR
  • Re-orienting yourself if you are lost
  • Posting a message to discussion
  • Moving to the another page

click on a link from this page to a location

On the Home Page, the word NEW will appear next
to the selections for Read Messages, Discussion
List, Announcements, and View Tests if the
facilitator or another learner has
  • Sent a message to you
  • Posted an announcement or
  • You have feedback from a quiz you completed.

Using the Table of Contents
  • The TOC displays
  • NEW (never read) and U (unfinished) units of the
    course,
  • The TOC also uses folders icons to identify units
    and
  • Quiz icons to identify quizzes.

You may select the units and quizzes in any order
and skip content that is not useful for you.

Using the Navigation Bar
  • The Navigation Bar appears at the bottom of every
    page. Your choices include the following.
  • Previous Up Next Home Coursework Utilities
    Send Message Search Logout Guide
  • If you are in a discussion area, your choices
    will be slightly different.
  • Home New Message Coursework Utilities Search
    Logout Guide

Navigating
  • Previous takes you back one page. You may also
    use the back arrow at the top of your browser
    window.
  • Up moves you up one level in the Table of
    Contents. Depending on the complexity of the
    course, selecting UP may take you to the Table of
    Contents for the sub-unit, unit or the entire
    course.
  • Next takes you to the next page in the course.
    If NEXT is not available on the navigation bar,
    use UP to move back to the Table of Contents.

Navigating
  • Home go to your Online Learning Home Page. If
    you are not certain where you are in the course,
    you can always select HOME and start again from
    your home page.
  • Coursework go to the listing of courses for
    which you are registered.
  • Utilities use this option to change your
    password.

Navigating
  • Send Message unless you specify the name of
    another registered learner, this option sends a
    message to the course facilitator. Use Send
    Message if you have a question or problem. Click
    on SELECT to select the name of another learner.
  • Search search for key words in the courses for
    which you are registered.
  • Logout logout each time you end your session at
    the Online Learning Center.
  • Guide read additional information about taking
    courses.

Posting a Message to Discussion
  • Use discussion to explore ideas and resources
    with other learners.
  • In many of the courses, you will be asked to
    comment on a topic and post your comment to a
    discussion area. A hyperlink in the course
    material will take you directly to the discussion
    area.

  • You can also go directly to discussion from Your
    Online Learning Home Page select DISCUSSION
    LIST, then select the course and topic on which
    you want to comment.
  • To review comments from other learners, click on
    the message title. In the example below, you know
    that the topic of the message is 10 things you
    need to know, the author is caroles and the
    message was posted on 2/8/05

To comment on or reply to a message that you have
opened and read, select REPLY. You will see a
text box in which you can type your comments.
When you have finished typing, select
SUBMIT. To post a comment that starts a new
idea, select Post New Msg. You will see a text
box in which you can type your comments. When
you have finished typing, select SUBMIT.

Quizzes
  • If you complete a quiz with True/False or
    multiple choice answers you will receive
    automated feedback. After you review the
    feedback, you will have the option of re-taking
    the quiz by clicking on RESUBMIT.
  • Clicking on Go to view tests will take you to a
    listing of all the tests or quizzes your have
    completed.

Quizzes
  • Click on VIEW TESTS on your Home Page to view all
    of the quizzes you have completed.
  • At the VIEW TESTS page, click on individual tests
    to view written feedback if your quiz required a
    narrative response.

I Cannot See My Test Results!
Click on the REFRESH icon (see the red arrow
below) at the top of the Internet Explorer
Window. Often this step will make the test
results available to you. If refreshing the page
does not work . . .

Click on the Back arrow (green in the picture to
the right) until you have returned to the test
page. Click on the UP Arrow (outlined in red).
At the table of contents for the unit, select the
test again. You will now be able to see your
results.

If all else fails. . .
  • Read the Guide
  • Click on SEND MAIL - your message will
    automatically go to the course facilitator
    please include a telephone number in your message.
