Title: Sports and Information Technology

1
Sports and InformationTechnology
  • All professional sports teams use a combination
of several aspects to ensure that they are
staying competitive during game time, but also in
the market place. By using Information Systems
and Information Technology teams can reach their
    thriving goals.

By Lindsay Towle
2
Overview
  • There are many different ways that technology
aids hockey teams, professional and amateur, and
their fans. Examples of this could include new
ways that fans can purchase tickets, look on a
teams website, and keep statistics on their
    favorite teams.
  • Information Systems and Technology is important
for all the students in the School of Business to
learn how to operate in order to be successful.
  • The development of new and improved
technological ideas is what drives our economy
into the future and with out it there would be no
    competition in the world.

3
Overview Continued
  • The School of Business can use quantitative data
to help make it a better place for students and
faculty. There are two different forms of
systems that we can use to administer future
    freshmen into Quinnipiac University
  • You can use a point system. Each requirement is
worth a certain amount of points. 5 being the
    best and 1 the worst.
  • Or you can use a computer program where you just
    enter the necessary data.

4
New Concepts in Technology
  • New concepts that hockey teams and fans are
beginning to use are the following
  • A wireless ad campaign that the public are able
to access through their cellular telephones. An
example of this is if a fan logged on to the team
website with his/her phone and ad with a coupon
automatically popped up, then all the individual
would have to do is click the site and he/she
would be able to talk to a ticket sales
    representative.

5
Technology Continued
  • A new type of technology that hockey lovers and
even coaches use is called SNAPSHOT! Competitive
Sports Manager. It is a new software program
that is designed to significantly reduce the
amount of time and energy require to maintain
    detailed statistics (www.hockeystats.com ).
  • In addition, locker rooms now contain a SMART
BOARD. This is suppose to be the worlds most
sophisticated chalkboard it is capable of video
    streaming and telestrator capabilities (Greg
Beacham, Hockey Uses Technology to Stay on
    Edge).

6
Goals of the School of Business
  • The first goal of the School of Business should
be to teach their students the basics and
fundamentals of a real business environment.
Secondly, the School of Business should train its
students to become knowledgeable in the computer
world, so they can compete with other adults and
students when on his/her own. Both of these goals
can be accomplished by using either information
    technology or technology systems.

7
How Information Technology has a Competitive
Advantage for the School of Business
  • Using technology in our Business classrooms
will allow all students to become more familiar
with different information and systems. This
allows the School of Business to become more
    technologically advanced than other schools.
Which will make the University stand out among
    others in the area.
  • In addition, using information technology for
quantitative data can give Quinnipiac University
a competitive advantage when selecting future
students. The school could use either a point
system or create a software where you would just
    enter the necessary data.
  • In the point system you would consider the same
things as in the software programs such as high
school grades, recommendations, SAT scores, ACT
    scores, extracurricular activities, and community
service. If a qualified student has all of these
things on his/her application then they would
receive five points for each requirement. The
students with the higher scores are the ones that
    would be accepted.
  • If you wanted to use a software, instead
because of larger amounts of student applying
then all you would have to do is enter in the
same data and which ever applicant had the higher
outcome would be administered into the World
    Class Quinnipiac University.

8
Competitive Advantage Continued
  • Not only is this a good method for saving time,
but it would also allow the University to choose
from a large array of prospective students. By
doing this, this institute of higher learning
will only allow those students who have proven to
be hard and loyal workers. In the end,
Quinnipiac University will be known for not only
accepting the best, but turning out the most
    supreme men and women.

9
Competitive Advantage Continued
  • A world class University is not going to be just
well known for its excelling student, but also
their dedicated professors and staff. In order
to teach at an institute such as Quinnipiac
University a professor should have to go through
a teaching examination. This would entail the
professor to teach a room full of students and
professors. They will be graded on quality,
    teaching ability, lesson content, and
friendliness. The professor with the highest
score will be the one that is considered most for
    the available position.
