Title: Interesting Facts About Cells

1
Interesting Facts About Cells
  • Edmund Yu
  • Hahn Chiu
  • Mitch Thompsen

2
What is A Cell?
  • A Cell is the functional unit of all living
    Organelles.
  • There are many types of cells.
  • A cell has three main parts and they are the
    nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane

3
Components of Cell Membrane
  • All cells are surrounded by a cell membrane.
  • The Cell Membrane maintains the integrity of cell
as well as controlling the passage of materials
in and out of the cell.

4
Organelles Ribosome
  • An organelle is a structure with a specific
    function
  • The Ribosome is composed of DNA and Protein.
  • Ribosome are found in the ER membrane and
    cytoplasm, a supportive framework.

5
Lysosomes and Peroxisomes
  • Lysosome and Peroisomes, both contain enzymes.
  • Lysosomes digest worn cellular parts
  • Peroisome breaks down lipids and other materials

6
Golgi Apparatus
  • It packages protein for transport and secretion.
It is made up of sacs.

7
Endoplasmic Reticulum
  • There is a rough and smooth Endoplasmic
    Reticulum.
  • The Rough has Ribosome, the smooth does not.
  • The rough ER transports and synthesizes protein.
    The smooth ER synthesizes lipids.

8
The Nucleus
  • The Nucleus stores genetic information and serves
as the control center of the cell.
  • The nucleus is surrounded by a nuclear Envelope.

9
The Nucleus (continued)
  • The nucleus is surrounded by a nuclear envelope
which is the double membrane of the nucleus.
  • It separates the contents of the nucleus from
    the cytosol, an internal fluid

10
The Nucleus (continued)
  • The Nucleus is surrounded by nuclear pores which
serve as a passage way for cell
  • At the center of the nucleus is the nucleolus,
which is where ribosome synthesize occurs.

11
Off TopicThe Brain
  • The Brain coordinates movement and behavior.
  • Most living things have a brain.

12
Interesting Facts Brains
  • The average weight of a brain is 1,300 grams for
adults. Two percent of a humans weight is the
    brain
  • Injuries to the brain tend to affect large areas
of the brain, sometimes causing major deficits
    intelligence.
  • Brain is studied in many fields of science
    including psychology
