the United States against terrorist and foreign
intelligence threats, to uphold and enforce the
criminal laws of the United States, and to
provide leadership and criminal justice services
to federal, state, municipal, and international
agencies and partners.

  • On July 3, 2007, the f.b.i had a total of
    30,646 employees. That includes 12,444 special
    agents and 18,202 support professionals such as
    intelligence analysts, language specialists,
    scientists, information technology specialists,
    and other professionals.

  • They work literally around the globe. Along
    with their Headquarters in Washington, D.C., they
    have 56 field offices located in major cities
    throughout the U.S., 400 resident agencies in
    smaller cities and towns across the nation, and
    60 international offices called Legal Attaches
    in U.S. embassies worldwide.

The primary function of the FBI is law
enforcement. The FBI does not keep a file on
every citizen of the United States. The FBI was
not established until 1908 and they have very few
records prior to the 1920s.
