- 1997 World Links For Development (WorLD) Program
founded as an initiative by Mr. James D.
Wolfensohn, President of the World Bank - 1998 WorLD program expands beyond its initial
three African countries to Latin America - 1999 World Links is officially spun-off from
the World Bank, as an independent non-profit
organization - 2000 World Links introduces its Community
Telecenter and Policymakers courses - 2002 World Links recognized by World Economic
Forum as 1 Educational Program Bridging the
Global Digital Divide - 2005 World Links is operational in India, Asia,
Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Arab
Region, and Eastern Europe

6Monitoring and Evaluation
- World Links evaluation tools focus on measuring
teacher pedagogical activities, the use of
computers to support these activities, and the
teachers assessment of the impact of the
computer use on student learning.
The tools track student and teacher improvement
in
- Information reasoning and active learning skills
- Global knowledge and communication skills
- Digital literacy and technical skills

Schools are the most effective, initial access to
the community
- Over 1,400 communities empowered through
technology - Impacted 22,000 teachers, reaching over 500,000
students in 30 countries - 52 of people impacted are women and girls
- 2/3 of communities impacted are outside urban
areas - 98 of schools connected through World Links
programs are still connected in 2004 - Semi-autonomous Arab Regional Program based Amman
- Deployed first satellite (VSAT) network for
educational use in Africa - Introduction of first dual-use school-based
community learning centers - Development of the first externally evaluated
teacher training program for the incorporation of
technology in the classroom - Enabled the creation of 85 school-based
telecenters for community access in Africa, India
and Brazil - Created online knowledge base of educational
technology tools for educators - Get the community involved
- Administrators buy-in is critical to success
- Computer labs in developing countries take time
and money but they work

This Pilot program was very important in our
efforts to use teamwork to learn. Before when we
divided into groups we just had one person from
each group report back to the class now all
students have the opportunity for their voices to
be heard, and this process can take place much
