Global Health Clinic

• This is a nurse-led clinic providing a
  comprehensive assessment of physical and mental
  health needs, targeting clients with an F2
  diagnosis (schizophrenia).
• Eventually this may also include F3 diagnosis.

Research

• Studies have shown that clients with severe
  mental illness have high levels of physical
  symptoms which often go undetected and untreated
  due to
• Stigma
• Short consultation times
• Poor social skills of the clients
• Inexperienced doctors

Health Needs

• Evidence suggests that people with a severe
  mental illness have a higher mortality rate than
  the general population.
• Research lends support to the notion that
  clients adopt sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy
  eating habits. They are also likely to smoke and
  drink more.
• People with Schizophrenia who are treated with
  antipsychotic medications can experience
  electrocardioghraphic and metabolic
  abnormalities. This has raised concerns about
  the safety of these medications.
