- Educate community residents, especially young
fathers (e.g., young fathers programs and
GED/job training and placement programs.) on the
signs and symptoms of perinatal depression and
the impact on the family of not securing
treatment for affected family members. - ? Implement the New York State Department of
Healths campaign to promote the use of mental
health services after we get local voices to tape
the messages. - Continue to use Web based program to train
providers in the screening, diagnosis and
treatment of perinatal depression.
16- Organize a statewide movement to address the
funding, slot capacity, practice development
issues regarding perinatal mood disorders. - ? Recruit two NYC schools of social work, one
medical school and one psychology department to
develop specialty programs to produce students
trained to appropriately screen, diagnose and
treat various perinatal mood disorders. - ? Continue to collaborate with the Psychiatry
Department of Presbyterian Hospital to study the
impact of perinatal depression on the developing
fetus and the impact of anti-depression drugs on
the fetus.
