4 Market Summary
Market
Now that Korea, China, and Japan have made gaming an official sport we expect other countries to soon follow their example. In 2004, the total U.S. sales of video game hardware, software and accessories was 9.9 billion compared with 10 billion in 2003. Total software sales rose 8 percent over the previous year to 6.2 billion. Hardware sales were down 27 percent for the year due in part to shortages, by Playstation 2 and Xbox, during the holiday season and price reductions from all systems. That 27 percent is Edge Gamings chance to take part of this growing market and continue to raise the standard of excellence within the gaming community.
5 Opportunities
Problems and opportunities
Sony with their Playstation 2 and Microsoft with their Xbox, have had problems with supply and demand. They failed to have enough of their product out for the holiday season and lost 27 percent of their sales. Edge Gaming plans on taking that 27 percent and making it ours.
Through marketing and sales, Edge Gaming plans on having one year of pre-ordering before its release date. This will allow us to project sales numbers based on consumer demand for the following year. These numbers will allow us to fill the demand of our new product.
6 Business Concept
The GameStation X is based on Edge Gamings new UDR (Universal Disc Reader) and 3C gaming platform. With the UDR and the 3C, the GSX is able to read any format of CD or DVD and play any console game currently sold. With our new technology and complete customization, Edge Gaming plans on taking gaming to the extreme.
Our concept is simply to give power to the gamer. With the GSX, gamers will be able to fully customize their system and not be restricted to only one platform or multiple consoles. By doing this Edge Gaming will cut the cost of gaming.
7 Competition
Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube, only offer one proprietary system. This means that only their console will play their games.
Edge gaming will simply give an edge to the universal gamer. Not only can the GSX play any format of disc and console game currently made, we are offering complete customization of the GSX. Through this, the GSX will make gaming unique.
8 Goals Objectives
Five-year goals
To keep up with the ever changing gaming consoles of the future, and to continue to make all other game systems obsolete.
Due to Sony and Microsofts shortage in the last year gaming hardware sales has dropped 27 percent. Edge Gaming sees this as our chance to claim almost a third of the gaming hardware sales. Consumers are looking for something new, Edge Gaming is it.
To gain a foothold in the gaming market.
To be among the top suppliers of gaming hardware and accessories, additionally Edge Gaming plans developing a portable game console to compete with the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS.
