Abstract
  • The purpose of this experiment is to show how
competition affects plant growth. If I put three
seeds in cup A and fifteen seeds in cup B, then
the seeds in cup A will grow, develop and get
more nutrients since there is almost no
competition there, while the seeds in cup B will
grow and develop less because there is a lot of
competition occurring between the seeds. For this
experiment to be accurate I will follow a
    procedure.

Abstract
  • First I will fill 2/3 of two cups with soil. Then
in one cup (cup A) I will plant three seeds, and
in the other cup (cup B) I will plant fifteen
seeds. After that I will moisten the soil daily
and I will observe how they grow and develop for
over two weeks. After all those steps I will
analyze my data and draw a conclusion to whether
or not competition affects plant growth. For this
experiment I will do a research and field test. I
will record the data by observing changes that
might occur in the development of the seeds in
both cups and how they are affected by the amount
of competition in each cup. I will observe the
plants daily between 6am and 7pm.

Background
  • Research says that the competition of plants
begins below the ground (underground) and
proceeds above the ground. Research also says
that the competition between plants affect its
growth and productivity. It says that above the
ground productivity does not affect how plants
compete below the ground. The competition below
the ground will always be greater than the
competition above the ground. The plants that
have more competitors will have a decrease in
their development compared to plants that have
fewer competitors. Plant competition is usually
greater among plants from the same/similar
species since they require mostly the same
    resources to survive.

5
Purpose
  • The purpose of this experiment is to see how
    competition affects plant growth.

6
Hypothesis
  • If I plant three seeds in cup A and fifteen seeds
in cup B, then the seeds in cup A will grow, and
develop more than the seeds in cup B, because
there is a lot of competition occurring between
the seeds in cup B. While in cup A there are few
seeds and the competition is less between them so
    they get more nutrients.

7
Procedure
  • The procedure for this experiment is the
    following
  • Gather materials.
  • Form a hypothesis.
  • Read over procedure and follow instructions
    attentively.
  • Fill each cup 2/3 full of soil.
  • Plant seeds on cup A Three seeds, cup B Fifteen
    seeds. Continue

8
Procedure
  • 6. Moisten soil daily.
  • 7. Label cups.
  • 8. Observe daily for two weeks.
  • 9. Analyze results.
  • 10. Draw a conclusion.
