1. Local Interest Identified
  • Interested person contacts NCMA National Officer
  • Identify Members willing to actively participate
    as Officers for new Chapter
  • At least 10 new or potential members must sign a
    Petition of Application
  • A letter of application drafted and sent to the
    National Office Attention President
  • National will help in many ways! - NCMA
    literature, Member Listings, Mailings,
    certificates, pins, emblems, kick-off luncheon,
    speakers etc..
  • National provides list of local chapters and
    members

2. Interested Members Identified
  • Dont try to do it all yourself!!
  • Identify nucleus of interested members for
    kickoff of Chapter
  • Call an informational meeting to verify the level
    of interest of area members and other individuals
  • Remind new and potential members that active
    participation will be rewarding in various ways,
    i.e.
  • - Generate business contacts
  • - Identify information resources
  • - Grow professionally
  • - Share knowledge among activities
  • - Social contacts
  • NCMA Officers direct link to the commands CO and
    deputy, Local officers attend National
    Convention, become National officer

3. Members Meet NCMA
Officers Selected
  • Generate ideas - What kind of chapter programs
    are interesting - How would the group
    gain new members
  • - How to identify local speakers
  • - How to organize
  • Discuss the interest and capabilities of
    candidates for Officers. If there is a consensus
    of attendees, make your selections. A formal
    election is not required at this time.
  • Invite an (National) NCMA Officer or local
    Chapter Officer to speak at the kick off meeting.

3. Members Meet NCMA Officers Selected

  • Select a Chapter Name
  • Direct the Treasurer to open a bank account
    (First year no national dues), National will
    provide non-profit information
  • Discuss the best times and locations for your
    group meetings
  • Discuss what kinds of programs would fit best
  • Discuss Chapter direction and potential speakers
  • Maintain contact with the NCMA National

4. Chaptering Petition to the National Board
  • Its not so complicated
  • Prepare a Letter of Application for the NCMA
    Board of Directors Requesting that a Charter be
    granted for your group
  • Attach a Petition signed by no fewer than 10 new
    or potential members showing their addresses and
    phone numbers
  • Identify the NCMA Officers of your local chapter
    - President - Vice President - Treasurer -
    Secretary
  • Prepare draft Constitution and By-laws for the
    Chapter. A Boilerplate can be provided from
    the NCMA National
  • Send the letter and petition to the NCMA
    National President

5. Authorization to Proceed
  • Youve Made Believers of the Board
  • The Petition and supporting documentation has
    been reviewed and approved
  • Recommended boundaries have been reviewed and may
    be redefined by the National Board
  • Concurrence for chaptering is provided with
    instructions for other necessary actions for the
    By-laws, Officers, Membership, and
    National Dues

6. Group approval of By-laws
  • Bring your members into the process
  • Hold a group meeting to complete chapter planning
    (National can assist)
  • Notify all members about the By-laws
  • Allow members time to comment on the By-laws
  • Hold a meeting for the members to vote
  • All that is needed is a majority vote at the
    meeting
  • Try to schedule a speaker, maybe someone from the
    NCMA National or local Chapter

7. Chapter Charter is Granted and Presented
Congratulations, Now lets move out
  • A Charter for the Chapter will
    be granted by the
  • National Officers
  • The President will discuss with you
    the
  • presentation of the Charter
  • The National Officers are always there
    if you
  • need help
