  • November 2003

2
Project Objectives
  • Students will read and interpret topographic maps
    (2-D)
  • Students will create terrains of sand, dirt, and
    rock.
  • Students will gather data from the terrain to use
in a visualization program called Eazy-Viz
  • Students will use the visualizations (2-D and
3-D) from Eazy-Viz to compare and analyze the
    terrains they created.

3
Technology Objectives
  • Students will use data from Excel in column, row
    format in Eazy-Viz.
  • Students will create 3-D and 2-D visualizations
    in Easy-Viz
  • Students will analyze and manipulate data from
    Easzy-Viz

4
  • Students seen here are creating the terrain
trays. The trays were later covered with peg
    board and data was collected.

5
  • Students seen here are working on Excel in the
    classroom.

6
  • Students took over 3000 points of data from the
trays. The data was copied from Excel and used
in Eazy-Viz shown here. Our data is available
    through my website www.wcusd5.net/attend/jrhs/duva

Student Comments It was cool Kristen It was
interesting because it was new to us, so it was
like an adventure! Sam It was fun, you got to
see it in 3-D Robert It was complicated to
figure out because there were too many steps to
go through to get to the 3-D part. The 3-D part
was helpful and easy from there. Tom

  • Students were able to accurately compare and
analyze the computer visualizations to the
    terrains they created!
  • Students comprehension of going from 2-D to 3-D
    visualizations increased.
  • I found the students to be very engaged
throughout the project, but especially when on
    Eazy-Viz.
  • Students were very understanding about the
changes we made through out the project.
  • Through this project, our school as been selected
to participate in Tech 2004. Students will be
sharing our project with legislators at our
    capital building in April 2004!!!
