Sask Lacrosse Association
  • BOX LACROSSE RULES
  • AREAS OF EMPHASIS 2007

2
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
  • Ensure the safety of the players
  • Game of lacrosse enjoyable for all those
    involved.
  • Players develop into fundamentally better box
    lacrosse players.
  • Not always being properly taught how to play
    defense.(lunging)
  • Competitive disadvantage when playing teams from
    traditionally stronger lacrosse playing
    provinces.

3
THE 24 FOOT SEMI-CIRCLE
  • Players cannot get away with anything in this
    area
  • Place and push principle must still apply as
players are generally too aggressive putting them
    in a poor defensive position.
  • Saskatchewan as a province has a high rate of
    returned bent lacrosse sticks

4
PRAIRIE GOLD LACROSSE LEAGUE (I.E. MAJOR BOX)
  • The Prairie Gold Lacrosse League has determined
the 24-foot circle will be considered a loose
    circle.
  • More lenient with minor interference, checking,
picks, screens outside the 24-foot circle.

5
HighSticking - Rule 50
  • HighSticking is a potentially dangerous check and
needs to be eliminated from box lacrosse.
  • No Exceptions for Incidental Contact or Ducking
in Minor Lacrosse!- Automatic Minor Penalty.

6
CHECKING FROM BEHIND RULE 38CROSS-CHECKING
RULE 40
  • Checking from behind can be dangerous and is not
a necessary form of checking anywhere on the
    floor.
  • CFB - Double Minor penalty for all age divisions.
Rule 85 (f) will still be applied as this is
    deemed only one infraction.
  • Place and push principle should be used on all
checks. Cross-checking is only allowed on
    ball-carrier.

7
MINOR INTERFERENCE RULE 55
  • Minor interference often leads to confusion
and/or frustration for players, coaches, and
    spectators.
  • Call minor interference more regularly at all
levels when fighting for a loose ball (not floor
    hockey).
  • Players must be intending on playing the ball.
  • Referees will watch for checks away from loose
balls and call the appropriate team for minor
    interference.

8
MINOR INTERFERENCE RULE 55 (continued)
  • Picks, Picks Rolls, and Screens are an
important part of the game of box lacrosse.
Contact is expected and these plays are legal
when done properly relating to b, d, e.
  • The PGLL (major box) has requested the loose
24-foot circle also relate to picks, screens
meaning point (b) is not applicable for major
    box.

9
SLASHING RULE 64
  • Slashing is a failed stick check delivered to any
part of the body including the hands.
  • Call slashing penalties more regularly in 2007
    and years beyond.
  • More lenient with stick-checks at older age
divisions as players are expected to have more
control over their sticks and players have better
    dodging techniques.

10
Rule 68 Thirty Second Rule
  • Disregard change to rule 68 (a) in 2007 CLA Rule
    book.
  • Saskatchewan will continue to play with thirty
second clock in all shorthanded situations.

11
PLAYERS EQUIPMENT RULE 13
  • Rule 13 (a) All players are required to wear
protective gloves, shoulder and arm pads, and a
back/kidney pad, which must be approved for
lacrosse as specified in the CLA Safety and
Equipment Policy. Players participating on the
floor without all of the above equipment shall be
assessed a two minute minor and a game
    misconduct.
  • Players wearing jewelry shall also be assessed a
two minute minor and a game misconduct.
  • Check prior to game with each coach - Ask Are
all your players wearing the required equipment
as per CLA Rule book including mouthguards and
    have removed all jewelry?
