The following learning activity is to help you to
identify the various parts of the Performing Arts
Centers soundboard. Place the cursor over the
different parts of the soundboard and watch it
change to a hand. Click this hand to learn more
about that portion of the soundboard. When you
are finished investigating the soundboard your
instructor will tell you about taking an
assessment to see what you have learned.

6GAIN This knob controls the strength of the raw
signal from the microphone.

7PHANTOM POWER Press this button down to provide
24V power to the microphone. Use it for the
border microphones and hot boxes.

84 BAND EQUALIZER Turn the dark colored knobs to
adjust the tone coming from the microphone. They
can add bass or clarity to the voice.

10AUXILIARY OUTPUTS These knobs send the signal
from the channel to any of four stage monitors.
These represent channels A, B, C, and D.

11AUXILIARY OUTPUTS These knobs do not control
anything at this time.

13GROUPS These buttons allow you to combine
channels into like groups, such as all the drums
or vocals.

14PAN This button allows you to route the signal
equally to all three house speakers or just
between the left and right speakers.

15BALANCE This knob allows you to balance the
signal between the left and right speaker. The
button above it must be set for L/R.

17MUTE Pushing this button down mutes the
microphone or interrupts the signal to the house
speakers. It does not turn off the microphone
and you can still listen by using the PFL button.

18PFL PRE FADE LISTEN allows you to listen to the
signal from a microphone before it goes out to
the house speakers. You can hear these signals
through the headphone jack in the front of the
soundboard.

19FADER The fader controls the volume or loudness
of the sound that the audience hears. The scale
represents the amount of electrical resistance.
The signal is quiet when the fader is down and
loud when it is up.

20MUTE GROUPS These buttons allow you to combine
microphone so that you can mute several channels
at one time. Click here to see the GROUP MUTE
controls.

21MUTE SAFE When you press this button it
protects it from the GROUP MUTE.

25MAIN VOLUME These three faders control the volume
of the entire soundboard out to the main speakers
in the auditorium. STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
is to set the LEFT and RIGHT fader at the 0
mark and the CENTER slightly less. This give a
surround effect.

27MAIN MUTES These buttons mute the three speakers
in the auditorium.
HINT Push these buttons if there is a major
feedback. It will silence the noise and give you
a moment to find the problem microphone.

microphones when selected on the individual
