Services of My Internship

• I worked for UHM-Hamilton Library Asia
  Collection.
• To provide reference service on Asia at a general
  level.
• To work on a special project the special project
  I was assigned to involved selecting Chinese
  e-newspapers from the Web and putting them on the
  China Collections online resources web page.

What did I learn ?

• I gained some basic understanding of acquisition
  issues in Asia Studies materials
• I gained some experiences and skills in handling
  reference interviews regarding Asia Studies
• I learned about issues in evaluating web-based
  materials
• I know more about the source of Chinese
  e-newspapers
• I learned how to use some software such as
  Textpad and NJ Star Communicator

What did I accomplish ?

• I handled more than 320 reference questions at
  the reference desk independently and
  successfully.
• Also, I selected and added more than 25 Chinese
  news-related websites, and organized them under
  the category of News / Media on the Online
  Resources page at http//www.hawaii.edu/asiaref/c
  hina/online_resources.htm

Evaluation

• The internship helped me become a more
  knowledgeable and effective reference librarian.
• It also helped me become more confident about
  working in the field of information science.
