Current Situation of Mobile Comm. B3G
Requirements B3G Technology Trend Conclusion
3Current Situation
- WCDMA R99/R4 are at the first period of
commercial deployment - R5/HSDPA has achieved a peak data rate of 14Mbps
at 5MHz frequency Band - Wimax/802.16 achieved 100Mbps data rate, and
mainly focus on data communication - 3GPP start a LTE project to achieve an object
similar as WiMax - ITU-R WP8f B3G activities
4Current Situation
- Voice and Low rate data services
- Traditional Services
- Remain the main income resource for the operator
- Data and Multimedia Application
- Main bandwidth consumer in the future
- But not the main income for the operator

Current Situation of Mobile Comm. B3G
Requirements B3G Technology Trend Conclusion
6Service Requirement
- Large amount kinds of services
- Life, business, learning, entertainmentetc.
- Voice, data, audio, video, multimedia
- RT, nRT, CBR, VBR QoS requirement
- Imagination in Services are unlimited in the
mobile internet era - Difficult to predict
- E.g. SMS in China
7Service Environment
- Concept from ITU-R WP8f IMT.Method
- Traffic Distribution will change with location
and time - Teledensity
- User pattern home, office, wide area
- Service environment describe the statistical
characteristics of service mix in an area
8Spectrum
- 2G spectrums
- 800, 900,1800, etc..
- IMT2000 spectrum has been assigned
- 2GHz frequency band
- ITU are allocating new spectrum for B3G
- 2.52.69GHz
- Higher frequency Band are Expected
- below 6GHz
9Radio Environment
- Higher frequency band means
- Faster Doppler and Rayleigh fading
- Smaller coverage
- Mobility support capability decrease
- Different propagation scenarios
- City, Rural, Plane, Mountain area,
- Street, Outdoor, Indoor, Subway, etc
10Service/Radio Environment
- Network deployment to fulfill the needs of
Service/Radio Environment
11High Level Requirements of B3G
- Services/Service environment
- Radio Environment
- Decay and Mobility support
- Interconnection / Interaction / harmonization of
different networks - Operation OM and BOSS
- Low CAPEX and OPEX
12Technical Requirements of B3G

- High data rate and Spectrum efficiency
- Micro Mobility Support
- Network Architecture
- Simple Architecture
- Macro Mobility Support
- QoS Support Resource Management
- IP in the CN
- Shared channel in air interface
13The Main Requirement of 3GPP LTE Air Interface
- Optimization for Services from PS domain
- Peak Data Rate100Mbps/DL, 50Mbps/UL
- Higher Spectrum Efficiency24R6
- Mobility Optimization for Low Mobility,
- Shorter Latency 10ms at U-Plane, and 100ms at
C-Plane - Scalable Bandwidth1.25,2.5,5,10,15,20
14Quality of Service Solutions
- Layered QoS Solution
- Pricing Policy (Operation)
- encourage or suppress potential demand of
services - Network Capacity Deployment (Network Plan)
- To accommodate the traffic distribution in
different area and time period - Traffic Engineering (Core Network)
- Utilize the capacity efficiently
- Admission Control / Load control (Air interface
Layer 3) - In case of congestion, fulfill the demands of
high priority customer and services - Scheduling (Air interface Layer 2)
- Bit Rate, Delay and Reliability insurance of
different services on Shared channel - Channel capacity (Air interface Layer 1)
- Provide the basic transmission capability
- Interactions between different layers
