  • About Scope
  • Scope is the leading disability organisation in
    England and Wales, our main areas of work are
    focused in trading, independent living services,
    fundraising and campaigning
  • Our aim is that disabled people achieve equality
    a society in which they are as valued and have
    the same human and civil rights as everyone else.

  • Scopes Volunteering Strategy Unit
  • Scope currently has approximately 10,000
    volunteers and our target is that at least 20 of
    our volunteers are disabled
  • Last October our Inclusive Volunteering Project
    (IVP) was launched in recognition of the many
    disabling barriers disabled people can encounter
    when accessing volunteering opportunities
  • It is within IVP that the Health and Social Care
    Project is now based

  • Secured funding from the Department of Health to
    increase the availability and inclusivity of
    volunteering for disabled people within Health
    and Social Care settings
  • 3 year project beginning July 2007, covering the
    9 regions of England

  • 2007 - 2010
  • The projects overall aim is to further
    establish, maintain and support the development
    of varied, fully inclusive and meaningful
    volunteering opportunities for disabled people
    across the Health and Social Care sector

  • To increase the number of disabled people
    volunteering across the Health and Social Care
    Sector
  • To establish supportive partnerships with a range
    of Health and Social Care organisations
  • To encourage Health and Social Care Volunteer
    Managers to engage disabled volunteers through
    tailor-made IVP training and ongoing support

  • To provide a brokerage service to Health and
    Social Care
  • organisations wishing to engage proactively,
    inclusively and
  • positively with disabled volunteers. 
  • To challenge the helper / helped distinction
    by focusing on
  • ability rather than disability
  • To enable disabled volunteers to be empowered by
    their own
  • involvement in shaping and designing their
    volunteering
  • placements
  • To continue our lobbying of Government for an
    Access to
  • Volunteering Fund
