Title: ELECTRICITY MODULES Through Cognitive Learning

1
ELECTRICITY MODULES(Through Cognitive Learning)
  • ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

2
MODULE 3 - VOLTAGE(series and parallel)
  • Devices
  • Batteries (charge in coulombs)
  • Car Lighters
  • Wall Outlets Potential Energy
  • Equipment
  • Meters Oscilloscopes
  • Power Supplies
  • Transformers

3
Voltage
  • A battery has negative (-)charge on one terminal
and positive () charge on the other.
  • There is a potential difference between the
    battery terminals
  • If a load resistance is connected between the
    terminals the potential difference causes
electrons to flow creating a voltage drop on the
load equal to the battery voltage but opposite in
    polarity.

4
Electric Potential Difference
  • The potential difference is defined as the work
done per unit charge to move a charged particle
    from one position to another.
  • V 1 joule (w)/ 1 coulomb (q) w/q
  • Unit of potential difference volt (v)

5
Potential Difference, V
  • A charged particle placed in a region of
potential difference will be accelerated and work
will be done on the particle.
  • w DKE qv
  • A special unit used later in course is the
    electron volt (eV)
  • 1 eV 1.602 x 10-19 J
  • 1J 6.25 x 1018 eV
