Guiding Principles

• Appropriate developmental expectations for the
  developmental level of the child
• Make expectations for behavior clear
• Your behavior is a model for your child
• Praise more than you punish
• sooner after the behavior the better
• consistency is critical to success
• Be specific with both praise consequences
• Have a plan!

Basic Components of Behavior ABCs

• A Antecedent / Expectation (at preschool home
  at store)
• B Behavior fits that expectation (waiting ones
  turn walking and not running staying with the
  parent)
• C Consequences to that behavior

Requests / Demands (A)

• Request the act of asking for something to be
  given or done, especially as a favor or courtesy
• Demand to ask for with proper authority or to
  or require as just, proper

Behavior (B) Consequence (C)

• Appropriate praise
• Inappropriate negative consequence
