Scrutiny Group Recommendation

• Does the IFC accept the methodology proposed by
  the Scrutiny Group to identify sharable costs
  related to Experiment Operations?
• Modifications?
• Conclusion

Goal for contributions

• For FY03 the goal for contributions should be
  about per Ph.D. physicist.
• Expect to repeat the exercise as part of the
  budget cycle for FY04, ie during
  August-September.

Computing Contributions?

• BaBar formula depends on
• Establishing Computing NEED
• Costing the need as if provided at FNAL
• Permitting/encouraging contributions to that need
  at FNAL or elsewhere. If elsewhere, it must be
  available for the whole collaboration.
• The contribution may be offset against Experiment
  Operating cost contributions at a rate of 0.5/1
  
• Is this procedure agreed by the IFC?

Computing Contributions

• Establishing the NEED
• Review in June 2002
• It was not clear that this methodology was used,
  although the experiments tended to identify
  requests in excess of FNAL ability to fund.
• Results of review were available to IFC
• Plan a Review within next few months
• Note that review also does more than just say
  that need is appropriate.
• Establish cost as though at FNAL
• Dominated by FNAL costing, needs agreement of
  Scrutiny Group

• Can we get one of the other members of the
  Scrutiny Group to be Chairperson?
