RDE HLA Use Case Matrix Approach
10
RDE USE CASES
  • Real Time (RT) - Emphasis is on real-time or near
real-time execution. Data latency is generally a
core concern. Best effort is the most common
    transport mode.
  • Complex Models (CM) - Characterized by
    engineering federations with complex model
    hierarchies, attribute sets and subscribe/reflect
    mappings.
  • Proliferated Objects - Federations with large
numbers of entities such as tanks, mines,
    soldiers, etc.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HW) - Require interface
with actual hardware devices, from entity to
    component level. Generally requires time
synchronization to external standard and reliable
    transport.

Noted Issues
  • Real-time performance
  • Latency
  • Registration latency and throughput
  • Initial update latency and throughput
  • Time Management
  • Development of Reference FOMs
  • Ownership Management
  • Development of Object Classes
  • RTI per object memory load
  • Functional support for request based filtering
  • Lack of RTI support for large number of objects
  • Interoperability with growing number of RTIs
    being produced

16
Upcoming Plans
  • Interim RDE Forum Meeting January 19-21
  • Analyze performance data and develop matrix to
    characterize RDE needs
  • 1999 Spring SIW RDE Forum March 16
  • Outbrief to forum on I/ITSEC Special Session
  • Report on needs development, shape forum
    activities
  • Interim RDE Forum Meeting June 1999
  • Refine RDE needs characterization
  • 1999 Fall SIW RDE Forum September 1999
  • Present and vote on RDE needs
  • Present to SISO and other HLA communities
