Scheduling
13
Special Concern with Language Arts 7-11 CRT
  • Pilot items are spiraled, which means
  • Pilot items are always at the end, but are
different from test to test (multiple forms).
  • Teachers must make sure students bubble in the
FORM NUMBER on their answer sheets.
  • No need to worry who gets which form or how many
    (randomly is best).
  • If teachers have 1 classroom set of booklets,
students must get the same booklet (Form) each
    session.
  • Instructions about this are in the Teacher Admin.
    Manual.

Classroom Décor Issues
  • Classroom décor issues
  • Needs to be removed or covered if it provides a
direct answer to questions on the test.
  • Example Multiplication Charts in grades 3 4.
  • Discretion of the teacher and testing coordinator
as to the appropriateness of displays, charts,
    etc.
  • Rule of Thumb If teachers notice students using
the décor, and not their own knowledge, to answer
the question, it probably needs to be removed.

16
Adaptations to the Test
  • Adaptations
  • Accommodations
  • Modifications
  • In accordance with Requirements for
Participation of Students with Special Needs in
    UPASS (USOE, Oct.2004)
  • Special Ed can also refer to Participation of
Students with Disabilities in Utahs Statewide
    Assessment Program 2004-05.
  • Line of communication Teacher gt Testing
    Coordinator gt Principal gt Brad
  • Materials handling questions Testing Coordinator
    gt Judy

17
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
  • The Math and Science can be read to the student,
but not the Language Arts test.
  • Math and Science can be translated, but not the
    Language Arts
  • Content can be translated by a competent
translator except for the Language Arts test.
  • Be carefultranslating (and reading) does not
    mean tutoring.
  • No out of level testing.
  • You can utilize aides and volunteers to help
proctor the tests as long as they understand the
    dos and donts.

Answer Sheet Answers
  • If pre-printed, no need to bubble anything except
    the LA Form number
  • Non-preprinted, bubble everything
  • Student number from left to right
  • Teachers need to watch for stray marks in the
timing tracks (dark rectangles along the edges of
    the answer sheet)
  • No paper clips, stickies, extra sheets.
  • You can use a pre-print for the student even if
its not your school. The schools Header Sheet
    will correct that.

20
Erasing Stray Marks
  • Concerns about teachers erasing marks
  • Have the student do it under the teachers
    direction
  • Have teachers swap answer sheets
  • Have teachers do it in a group

21
Intermediate Algebra
  • WCSD Intermediate Algebra
  • Return to Brad separate from all other answer
sheets with a cover sheet that indicates
  • School
  • Teacher
  • If they are grouped by period, indicate the
    period.

22
SPECIAL CODES
  • The Testing Coordinator should be the one to mark
the SPECIAL CODES box after consulting with the
    teacher and administrator.
  • This will help ensure consistency.
  • Shaded area means separate bundles

24
SPECIAL CODE DEFINITIONS
  • ATTEMPTED (P0)
  • Means We tried. We put the the answer sheet in
front of him and he wouldnt (or couldnt) bubble
    in a single answer.
  • It explains a blank answer sheet
  • These answer sheets must have no answers bubbled
    in.
  • These students count toward 95.
  • These answer sheets are batched and placed on top
    of the bundle.

25
SPECIAL CODE DEFINITIONS
  • ACCOMMODATED (P1)
  • Accommodations do not change the test. In other
words, the results from an accommodated test can
be validly compared with results from a
    standard-administered test. You are comparing
    apples and apples.
  • Possible accommodations are listed in the two
    USOE documents
  • Accommodations must be per an IEP or 504 Plan.
  • These answer sheets are batched and place on the
    top of the bundle.
  • Count toward 95 participation
  • Scored as Proficient or Not Proficient, either way

26
SPECIAL CODE DEFINITIONS
  • MODIFIED (P2)
  • Modifications change the test. In other words,
the results from a modified test cannot be
validly compared with results from a
    standard-administered test. You are comparing
    apples and oranges.
  • These count toward your 95
  • Automatically considered NOT PROFICIENT
    regardless of the students score
  • These answer sheets are bundled and batched
    separately.

27
SPECIAL CODE DEFINITIONS
  • UT ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENT (P3)
  • A small of special ed. students. Probably
    severe.
  • Special Educators have been trained.
  • Only a total of 1 of the UAA Proficient Scores
can be figured into a schools APY report (most
    schools average gt1)
  • The UAA results are bubbled in on a regular Math
    and Language Arts answer sheet.
  • If you dont use a UAA students pre-printed
answer sheet(s). Gather them up and put a note on
them UNUSEDSTUDENT IS UAA and send them to
Judy separately. Dont mark anything on the
    unused sheet.
  • Bundle marked UAA separately
  • These count toward your 95 and may be proficient
    as well.

28
UAA
  • Example Language Arts Task 054 would be scored
on LA the answer sheet, item 54.
  • Teacher scores the task as being..
  • A 1 Minimum
  • B 2 Partial
  • C 3 Sufficient
  • D 4 Substantial
  • So, bubbling a D in proficient. Bubbling an A is
    not proficient.

29
SPECIAL CODE DEFINITIONS
  • ABSENT (N1)
  • Student didnt participate.
  • Counts against your 95.
  • Batch and place on top of bundle.

30
SPECIAL CODE DEFINITIONS
  • EXCUSED (N2)
  • Excused as per page 6 or Brads ELL memo.
  • Counts against your 95.
  • Batch and place on top of the bundle with the
    rest of class.

31
SPECIAL CODE DEFINITIONS
  • UNKNOWN (N3)
  • Does not count against your 95
  • Batch and place on the top of the bundle with
    rest of class.

32
SPECIAL CODE DEFINITIONSNon-Participation
  • WITHDRAWN FROM SCHOOL (N4)
  • Student is not longer on your PowerSchool or has
    withdrawn from that class.
  • Does not count against your 95
  • Batch and place on the top of the bundle with the
    rest of class.

33
How To Return Answer Sheets
  • DOS DONTS
  • Do remind the teachers and students to leave the
    tracking alone!

The USOE Scanners, Thelma, Louise, and Bob will
kick it out ERROR ERROR! Answer sheet thrown
out of gene pool.
34

2. Place a USOE HEADER on top of Answer Sheets,
then
