Format of Task

• Test time is 40 minutes made up of Planning 5
  minutes
• Writing 30 minutes
• Editing 5 minutes
• Planning is completed on separate page and this
  is not included for marking
• Nature of the task is a Narrative (Story)
• Stimulus material is provided

Features of a Narrative

• The story you write will need to have
• Focus on plot action driven, character driven
• Demonstrate Orientation, Complication and
  Resolution
• Writing needs to be in sentences, within properly
  constructed paragraphs
• Care and attention to spelling, grammar and
  legibility of writing

Areas to Work On

• Think about interesting story beginnings do not
  use the old Once upon a time Use opening
  sentence to create interest / tension
• Do not spend more than 5 minutes on planning
• Use creative ways to indicate Time in your
  story try to avoid dates for When
• Character descriptions do not have to occur as a
  long list of adjectives.
• Try to use creative ways to convey feelings

• Work on extending a simple good idea into a great
  elaborated idea
• Focus on sentence beginnings avoid overuse of

• Read your story out loud in your head to
  determine the effect the vocabulary has on the
  reader
• Remember to pay attention to punctuation avoid
  overuse of direct speech

Areas to work On cont.

• Spelling check as you go
• Choose creative, engaging or humorous topics
  avoid too much violence, film recounts
• Aim to provide a creative and appropriate ending
  sentence there is no need to put The End
• Pay attention to handwriting make it neat and
  legible not too small.
