Title: Evolving Minds

1
Evolving Minds
  • Introduction

A place where young minds are ignited to explore
science in their day to day life with freedom !
2
About Us
  • Evolvingminds is a future driven education and
research organization evolved to prepare young
    minds for a dynamic future.
  • Our effort is to create awareness in young minds
about their present choices and their effects on
the progress of human species in the near future.
  • We guide and direct these minds, the
    evolvingminds for the future.

3
Mission Statement
  • Develop young minds towards a competitive edge in
the field of Science and Technology by the time
    they reach 15 years.
  • Guide young minds to carry out a message for the
future in their chosen field driven by a vision
for the future and values for the self.

4
The Team
  • Anand R (Founder and Director)
  • Engineer and Teacher
  • Run independent programs driven by passion
  • Four years experience in hands on science
    teaching

5
Trainers
  • Vikram S Chetiar
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Handles Mathematics and integration of
Mathematical concepts in hands on science
    learning
  • Ashok R
  • Electronics Engineer and hands on science teacher
  • Designs electronics projects

6
Unique Features
  • We teach young minds in the age group of 8 to 15
years by helping them to explore their natural
    surroundings through thought provoking
experiments and hands on activities and projects
    in Sciences, Mathematics and Technology
  • We adopt a method that can break the wrong
assumptions the children have created for
themselves and guide them to come out with the
    scientific principles that are verifiable

7
What we strive for
  • Can our teaching methods bring out these
    characteristics in the children

Flexibility (change)
Ability to change to suit to new conditions
Tolerance (ambiguity)
Willingness to accept opinions or behaviour that
you may not agree
Adaptation (to changing environment)
Flexibility over time
8
Responsibilities
  • Who is a Teacher?
  • one who dispels darkness in others life
  • If we have to dispel darkness then we have to
know how darkness creeps in children?
  • How it gets in?
  • As the child starts observing the changes around
    them they formulate certain assumptions
    (darkness)
  • They do not know that the inferred knowledge are
    mostly assumptions
  • The problem is when they try to predict and apply
those wrong assumptions to their life
  • This is where most of the children
  • end as failures

9
How to search for light ?
  • Give the child the freedom True freedom to
    explore
  • Expose them to observe the natural surroundings
  • Help them to uncover the mindset
  • Ask them to write what they observe
  • Do not forget to tell them the difference between
    assumptions and conclusions
  • Show them the way to further investigate
  • In these process teach them an independent way to
    explore, investigate, understand and proceed

10
The bottleneck
  • Todays child lives in a fear inducted society
  • Under these conditions parents expect performance
  • Performance are measured on marks
  • Not enough chances for them to explore in schools
as teacher to student ratio is very low
  • No time for the child to be themselves as they
spend extra time to comprehend what is taught in
    schools

How is it possible that if we have created so
many obstacles and still hope that the child to
be successful ?
11
Teaching Concept (Flow chart)
  • Present System

Conclusion is given to the student (Ability to
inquire is lost)
Not known to the student (hence no motivation)
Explained by the teacher
12
Teaching Concept
  • Our Flow (a true learning should be enjoyable)

Student concludes and open for further
observation
Set of given data to do the analysis (driven by
surprise)
Is discovered by the student and the teacher
guides him to arrive at the conclusion
13
Teaching Concept Methodology
  • Outcome of experiential and enjoyable learning

Process
Arouse Curiosity
Experience
Break Assumptions
Permanent Memory
Realisation
Bring out Surprise
14
STEP I
  • Scientific Temperament Enhancement Program

Where all our methods are put to work
15
Activities
  • STEP ( conducted as weekend classes and on
    weekdays evenings)
  • DIAS Training
  • Young Entrepreneur
  • Teachers Training in general approach
  • to experimentation
  • Exclusive Experimental course in physics for High
    school
  • Scientific Apparatus and Toys

16
Achievements
  • STEP (Scientific Temperament Enhancement Program)
  • (presently running in two venues, four
    batches, over 40 students)
  • ASK 2006 Summer Programme (85 Students attended)
  • Programs in Schools (from 2003 onwards)
  • (Presently running in SVM)
  • Winter SciFest 2005
  • Summer SciFest 2005 (150 students)
  • Workshops in Apartments

17
Our Project - DIAS Lab
  • Discovery and Invention Approach to sciences

A Lab for scientific exploration of the
knowledge of the past Set to begin with full
fledged in 2008 With all your supports
18
Thank you
  • We thank the parents who have given full support
for our initiatives and who are yet to join
    hands.
  • We would be extremely happy if you could share
your views in terms of concepts, ideas,
    improvements
  • With Warm Regards,
  • Anand R
