ASEANs Regional Approach to Avian Influenza
  • The 27th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers on
    Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF), which was held
    on 29 September 2005 in the Philippines, endorsed
    the Regional Framework for Control and
    Eradication of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza
    (HPAI) in ASEAN.
  • AMAF established the ASEAN HPAI Task Force to
    formulate the detailed implementation plans in
    collaboration with international organizations.

Strategic Areas to Address Avian Influenza
  • The Regional Framework for Control and
    Eradication of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza
    in ASEAN covers 8 strategic areas, coordinated by
    the following lead countries
  • Disease surveillance and alert system Thailand
  • Containment measures Malaysia
  • Stamping out and vaccination policy Indonesia
  • Diagnostic capabilities Thailand
  • Establishment of disease free zones/compartments
    for recovery export capacity Malaysia
  • Information sharing Singapore
  • Emergency preparedness plans Malaysia

ASEAN Animal Health Trust Fund (AAHTF)
  • To signify ASEANs commitment and determination
    to support long-term sustainability of animal
    disease control in the region, the 27th AMAF
    agreed in principle to establish the ASEAN Animal
    Health Trust Fund (AHTF).
  • All ASEAN member Countries will contribute to a
    total of US 2.0 million.
  • ASEAN is currently working on the Agreement.
