Title: Information Displays

1
Information Displays Decision Processes
  • Christopher Bunn

2
Purpose
  • To avoid errors.
  • Allowing integration with ones environment.
  • Encourage effective decision making.
  • Keeping up with current research.
  • Representation of information and decision
    processes is infinite.

3
Types of Information Displays
  • Systems flowchart for master patient index -
shows the flow of data through all or part of the
system, the various operations that take place
within the system, and the files that are used to
    produce various reports or documents.

4
Software as Decision Tools
  • Hugin Lite 5.2 - The Hugin System is a tool
enabling you to construct model based decision
support systems in domains characterized by
inherent uncertainty. The models supported are
Bayesian belief networks and their extension
influence diagrams. The HUGIN System allows you
to define both discrete nodes and to some extent
    continuous nodes in your models.

5
Statistics as Decision Tools
  • Classifying Information

6
Statistics as Decision Markers
  • Probability - defined as the relative frequency
with which an event occurs or as the proportion
of all possible events that are of a particular
type. Probability help us as researchers to make
decisions. Example the weather report suggests
there is an 80 chance of rain, we know the
equivalent probability is .80. Would you bring
your umbrella if there was a 10 chance of rain,
    the equivalent probability .10?

7
Graphic Excellence in Information Processing
  • Tufte (1983) wrote that graphic excellence
consists of complex ideas communicated with
    clarity, precision, and efficiency.

8
Graphical Integrity
  • Poor Representation
  • Proper Representation

Graphical integrity is using graphics to
accurately portray data.
