13Summary of Results
- 5,320 job vacancies in Northeast MN (5 percent of
total state vacancies). - 1,810 vacancies are in Duluth.
- Four occupational groups show evidence of having
the greatest need for workers - Food preparation and serving
- Buildings, grounds, cleaning and maintenance
- Healthcare support, and
- Healthcare practitioners and technicians.
- Accommodation has the highest number of vacancies
(1,680 or 18 percent). - Northeast firms with fewer than 25 employees
account for 76 percent of vacancies. - Healthcare has the greatest number of vacancies
in Duluth. - Duluth firms with fewer than 25 employees account
for 45 percent of total job vacancies, a rate of
4 percent.

15 Characteristics Associated with Job Vacancies
Northeast
- Fifty-five percent of job vacancies are
full-time and 45 percent are part-time. - Thirty-two percent require a high school diploma
but no education beyond that. - Twenty percent require some post secondary
education or training. - Fifteen percent require previous experience.
- Median Wage offer in the Northeast was 6.10 per
hour. - Median Wage offer in Duluth was 7.50 per hour.
- Twelve percent of all job vacancies offer wages
of at least 12.00 per hour. - Wages are highly correlated to education and
experience requirements. - Less than half of the job vacancies offer
- Paid vacation (35 percent)
- Sick leave (29 percent), and
- Health benefits (28 percent).
- Part-time vacancies are less likely to offer
benefits.

- 15 percent of job vacancies require a vocational
degree, certificate, two-year degree or higher. - High turn-over jobs require a high school degree
or less. - Only 14 percent of job vacancies require previous
experience. - 58 percent of job vacancies require no education
or previous experience.
