Foreign Language DepartmentMission Statement
The study of another language leads to critical
thinking skills that enhance ones ability to
analyze, compare, contrast, synthesize,
improvise, and examine cultures through a
language and a perspective other than ones own.
Students will be linguistically and culturally
prepared to participate as productive citizens in
a global society.

What is the FLES program?

• Includes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.
• Taught in a classroom setting that reflects
  students everyday learning.
• Correlates with the curriculum and SOLs for each
  grade.

What Are My Objectives Goals

• To create a positive classroom atmosphere where
  students feel confident.
• To get students interested in the study culture
  of foreign language.
• To have each student participating and taking an
  active role in their learning in Spanish class.

A Typical Day in FLES

• Greeting, Date and Weather
• Introduction/Review of key vocabulary
• 1st Activity
• 2nd Activity/ Class Game
• 3rd Activity/ Class Game
• Closing- Review and song

What Are My Expectations?

• That students always follow the established
  classroom rules my rules.
• That students participate voluntarily or when
  called on.
• That each student respects the other students in
  the classroom.

• Be prepared when Spanish class begins.
• Listen carefully and participate in class.
• Speak Spanish!
• Always respect others.
