Title: ANASTASIA

ANASTASIA
  • My Sea Change

2
Intended audience
  • I am moving soon to Jervis Bay from Sydney
    for family reasons.
  • I will be looking for work and contacts.
This assignment presents me with a perfect
opportunity to build a web site which advertises
my skills as a violin teacher and musician.
  • The intended audience is very specifically
people wanting to find a violin teacher, and
other musicians. Violin students will most often
be small children as this is commonly known as a
better age to begin learning. This has guided my
design layout- (see further notes.) Therefore,
people looking at the site will primarily be
    parents, older students researching for
themselves, adult students and other musicians
in the area. The type of parents interested and
concerned about education for their children will
be most likely to look at the site, and so I
have included some interesting facts on the
history of the violin, and benefits of learning
an instrument. It is not intended to be an in
depth and comprehensive history, simply a brief
overview giving prospective players (and parents)
an appreciation of where the instrument has come
    from.

3
Goals of the site
  • To advertise my skills as a violin teacher and
    find students
  • To build a network of musical people with similar
    interests
  • To educate people on the origins of the violin
  • To inspire people to research further about the
    violin
  • To inform people of the benefits of learning a
    string instrument

Description of web pages 1. Home page
  • Content For privacy reasons I have only included
my first name as the title for this page. My name
is in large text and bold as the site is about me
primarily. Under this the words violin teacher
and musician which explains the purpose of the
site- which is to advertise my skills as a violin
teacher and musician. There is an image of a cat
playing the violin underneath. I decided to use a
cartoon rather than a serious image of a violin
as I wanted the site to look friendly, especially
to children. It will be primarily parents who
will view the site, and I thought it was
appropriate to have an engaging and warm image
such as the cat for both parents and children who
will see the site. This also solves privacy
issues of having to put a photo of myself or
anyone else on the site. The links to the other
pages are included under the image.
  • There is a very brief description of my
history in tutoring and performing on the violin.
I made it deliberately short as I cam to the
assumption that parents and people wanting to
learn or find other musicians, will be browsing
the websites of teachers gaining a general idea
of if they would be interested in this person.
They would not require a overly detailed account
of their work history. It gives enough
    information outlining some highlights, and
showing where my time has been mainly spent, and
also my general philosophy on teaching.
  • I have created an email account for
people to contact me should they wish at the
    bottom of the page.
  • Layout The layout is intended so that
people can quickly gain an understanding of what
it is for (advertising for students). My first
name in large letters with violin teacher and
musician written underneath are centred and bold,
maximising the chance that people will quickly
gain an understanding of the purpose of the site.
The image of the cat playing the violin is also
centred under the headings enhancing the overall
    look of the site.
  • The background I have made light pink.
The image and colour I thought would be appealing
and friendly to the intended audience which will
be young people and their parents. The four
paragraphs detailing my resume are aligned to the
left to make reading easy. The email address for
contacts is at the bottom of the page so they can
contact me after reading the information.
  • Function the web page is intended to give
parents of prospective students, or students
themselves, an idea of my skills and experience
as a violin teacher and a little of my philosophy
on teaching. It is also intended for other
musicians to read and contact me if they would
like to perform with me for various reasons.

Description of web pages2. History
  • Content This page contains various pieces of
information to inform and inspire parents and
prospective students. The first few paragraphs
describe the origins of the violin from Italy in
the 1500s and some of the first and most
important violin makers. This leads into a
description of the most unique and valuable
violins of today. The heading with a large font,
image and colour is exactly the same as the home
page giving the site consistency and visual
uniformity. I have included an ordered list of
the most valuable violins 1-3. Underneath this I
have another subheading about research findings
which prove that learning an instrument boosts
educational outcomes for children. All this is
aligned to the left, including the information
    above about the history.
  • I have included a table of equipment
which is needed to begin learning the violin. The
left column has the name of the equipment and the
right column explains what it is. I included this
as I have found people dont always understand
    what is involved or why.
  • Layout The heading, subheading, image and colour
as stated above remain the same. The historical
information about the violin is written first and
leads into some information about valuable
violins. This is meant to inform and inspire
people to learn more, it is not meant to be a
    comprehensive history.
  • A subheading in bold is underneath this
which I hope is eye catching and parents will
read. It details how playing music helps children
with other areas of study. Parents who are
concerned with their childrens education will be
encouraged by this. Under this is a list of
equipment in a simple table form, for ease in
gaining the information. After reading the facts,
parents may wish to think about purchasing the
    equipment necessary to begin.
  • Function The purpose of the content and layout
of this page is to inspire and motivate people
(parents and students) to want to learn more. It
is also to give them an appreciation and respect
for this instrument and to inform them of the
benefits of musical education. Finally the table
of equipment is on a practical level helpful for
people to start buying some of the necessary
    paraphernalia associated with learning the
    violin.

DESCRIPTION OF WEB PAGES3. References
  • Content On this page too, the text, images and
colour remain the same. Underneath these and
aligned to the left is a reference list of
material used in the site. These include journal
articles, web pages and the image on the site.
  • Layout The layout is the same at the top as the
previous two pages. The reference list is under
three subheadings in bold- Journal Article, Web
Sites and Image. The details of these references
are aligned to the left and separated by a line.
  • Function The main function of this page is to
reference other peoples material that I have
used, and also provide links for people to use
should they wish to research the ideas further.
This further demonstrates the site goals of
    informing and inspiring people.
