Project X to NuMI Initial studies indicate
the technical limit to beam power that could be
accepted by an upgraded NuMI beamline
is 2 MW - however risk analysis is needed
because of reduced redundancy and safety
factor for very difficult-to-repair decay pipe
and absorber Project X to DUSEL No
showstoppers for Project X beam to a new neutrino
beam-line - the specified beam parameters for
2.3 MW can be handled by a
conventional neutrino beam-line - the target and
window cooling are the most challenging aspects

- The RD program supports a facility scope that
includes - Modifications to the NuMI facility to support
operations at 2 MW beam power - the new target hall to DUSEL options is not
considered in this report

Horn 2 now
Still running with original horns in midst of
3rd repair of a water line ceramic transition.
Have accumulated 18 million pulses since May
2005. See visible corrosion.
7High Power IHEP Target Design
Design Study of the NuMI Target for 2 MW
Upgrades Task A Report of the Accord between
FNAL and IHEP
May be suitable for up to 2 MW But 10 fewer
neutrinos / POT (Pions cant exit out the sides
as easily as in the fin designs)
