    smoking-related illnesses every year
  • every day about 50 teenagers below the age of
    18 start smoking and most of them become hardcore
    smokers

Biography
  • Male
  • 28 years old
  • Started smoking at age 16
  • More than 5 years of smoking habit

The first time
  • I was with my friends in school, my friends were
    smoking and persuaded me to smoke.
  • I rejected but they called me a Coward
  • I didnt want to smoke, but I wanted to show that
    I was not a coward..
  • I Could not say NO

In the trap
  • Initially, I only smoked after my parents went
    out of the house, after school and in parties.
  • As time past by, I started smoking frequently. I
    used to start and end my day with a puff.
  • I used to get an urge to smoke in the morning,
    after meals, during recess time, after school,
    ..anytime!!

What next?
  • Bad skin
  • My teeth turned yellow
  • Foul smell in my breath
  • My mood was bad mostly and I got agitated easily
  • I had frequent quarrels with siblings and parents
  • I lost interest in studies

Came to my senses
  • I can never forget that day A visit to my uncle
    in the hospital. He was suffering from lung
    cancer.
  • He was a heavy smoker for the past 20 years. He
    was regretting Why I couldnt say NO?
  • A question appeared in my mind - Would I suffer
    like him in future?
  • The answer was YES.
  • I must stop smoking

What did I do?
  • I apologized to my parents
  • I asked for help from counselor
  • I set a quit date and threw away my cigarettes
  • I kept away from those friends who smoke
  • I had to be patient with the withdrawal symptoms
    where I had headache, sore throat, dry mouth,
    lack of energy I could think of nothing else but
    smoking
  • I kept myself busy to get over the feeling of
    smoking
  • I started concentrating on my studies

My advice for young generation
  • Dont start SMOKING
  • or else, you will regret

  • Curiosity
  • Peer pressure
  • Family Influence
  • Portraying macho and cool personality
  • Media influence - Cigarette advertisement

Why was his health affected?
  • Bad Skin
  • Smoking restricts blood vessels. Therefore, it
    prevents oxygen and nutrients from getting to the
    skin. This makes the skin pale and unhealthy.
  • Yellow teeth and bad breath
  • Tar present in the cigarettes stains a smoker's
    teeth with brownish-yellow colour which also
    causes bad breath.

Why was he changed?
  • Bad mood
  • Due to lack of nicotine in smokers body, he/she
    becomes anxious, agitated and restless.
  • Quarrels with parents and siblings
  • Due to bad mood, lack of interest in studies and
    increase in demand of pocket money.

Our Learning
  • Smoking does not only causes health problems but
    also strain the family relationships.
  • We have to avoid smoking in order to have healthy
    life style.

How can we help to reduce smoking in the
community?
  • Organize anti-smoking campaign
  • Form a task force to educate community from
    time-to-time
  • Impose higher fine to students who are guilty of
    smoking
  • Counsel students who are trapped in the deadly
    trap
