- The NBCD School are transfered from Horten Naval
Port to Haakonsvern Naval base in Bergen and
established at HNoMS Tordenskjold. - The Firefighting ground consisted of facilities
for basic firetraining and education of
smokedivers, and a Damagecontrol Repair
Instructional Unit. - Seasurvival courses and practical training
- NBC practical training and courses
- Helicopterdeck with mock-up.
- (helicopter were added early
- eigthies due to the integration
- of Nordkapp-class coastguard wessels)

- The poluting trainingsite were closed down due
to environmental circumstances. - A new site was needed, and therefor a project was
formed to develope a new environmental friendly
fireschool. - All firefighting training was for a period moved
to an civilian safety center in the region. The
training was conducted by RNoN trainors to uphold
the quality and competence of firefighting within
the Navy. - RNoN continued the training on civilian ground
until may 2000.

- Safety section are divided in 4 sub-sections (
CBRN FFDC Seaman Ship - Medics ) - 24 Officers, 2 CPOs, 20 conscripts (incl 5 Petty
Officers) - FFDC
- 8 Officers, 1 CPO, 4 POs and 10 conscripts
- Trainees Approx 2500 trainees annually,
including app. 600 advanced firefighters (
smokedivers and chemfire ) - Durations of courses from one day and up to 30
days. - Tasks Production of lectures and
trainingmanuals, conduct training at school, On
board training, Tactical and safety evaluation of
all Naval and Coastguard wessels, Support the
RNoN Material Command with experts in projects

10Some figures regarding FFTU
- Fires are supported with LPG ( prophane )
liquidized and/or in gaseous phase. - All categories of fires ( ex. metal fires ),
small fires, large fires, fireballs and flashover
- Smoke is introduced to exercise areas with 12
large computercontrolled smokegenerators (10
100 density) - Powerfull lightstrobes can be activated (combined
with fire) to simulate energized fires. System
monitor if relevant power switches are shutt
off) - Generic Search and rescue (SAR) areas on 2. Floor
(1.deck ) - Smoke and heat free briefingrooms on all
decklevels - Autonomous breathingair and firemain water supply
- All fires can be actvated in three modes.
- Local Trainor control fires with
remotecontrol/pedants - Manually PC operator controls fires and are
on-line with trainors - Automatic all fires are activated live, and
starts when relevant doors are opened. The fires
will in automode respond due to fire
extinguishment by a high number of different
sensors (water, foam, CO2, powder, temp,
soakingtime etc) - Smoke and water are cleansed to reduce polution.

automatic) - Number of trainees 24 at all time in Advanced
areas and 24 in Basic training area - Staff depending on level of exercises from 5
7 in Advanced areas, 3 in Basic area, 2

- Ship mock-up with typical shipsections.
- Measurements L 8 x W 5 x H 6 mtr
- DRIU are controlled by computers that activates
all damages. Manually or preset runs. - 21 different damages (12 lowpressure at 1 bar and
9 highpressure at 6 bar) - The DRIU moves 15 stb/port (angel of heel can be
set) - Movements are controlled by computers and can be
decreased or increased depending on simulated
seastate. - Realistic soundeffects. HiFi systems. Speakers
inside and outside the DRIU. - Varity of light inside (day, night or blackouts)
- 60 tons of (fresh) water can be introdused to
training areas (waterlevel on lower deck is 1.7
mtr) - Emergency buttons are installed in all rooms.
All relevant doors and gates are monitored and
activated. ( Handling of critical doors or gates
will set the DRIU into stop position ) - 24 trainees per exercise (2h).
