Origins of Kitbag
  • Signs of mental distress around the world
  • No job for life, no partner for life, no time for
    life
  • In over our heads
  • Repond with denial or despair
  • But we can respond differently
  • We can grow

6
Kitbags underlying philosophy

Kitbag in the NHS
  • Living our Local Values
  • NHS Fife
  • Senior nurses, managers, chaplain
  • Student OTs

Living our local values
  • Kitbag provided a safe environment for staff
to raise issues they otherwise might have found
difficult to discuss. I think it could help staff
to embed their values, provide support for them
to live their values and be used to hold people
to account in living their values.
  • Liz Carter, NHS Institute

Kitbag in NHS Fife
  • I think all senior charge nurses or senior
managers or anyone that has a stressful job
should be given one as an essential stress
    management tool
  • Kitbag helps me remain calm when dealing with
stressful situations, allow time to re-group or
re-gather my thoughts and allow time for me to
listen and to speak without interruptions

12
Kitbag in NHS Fife
  • Kitbag helped me concentrate and focus on
getting better. it helped me to cope with the
pain I experience both pre and post-operatively.
  • Kitbag is a good tool/resource to help you
see where you are and where you are going, while
giving comfort and strength for the journey.

13
Student OTs
  • The most interesting element that I observed
emerging was that all the students engaged in
    identifying why becoming an occupational
therapist was important to them and how they
wanted to make their practice more enriching.
  • Stephanie Morrison, Robert Gordon University

14
Kitbag in the NHS
  • An open system, can be personalised, added to,
    used in groups and teams
  • Developing a ward friendly version
  • Insights within Kitbag can be scaled up to
    nurture transformative change in services
