  • The Apostle Peter
  • The Apostle Paul
  • Lots Wife
  • Judas
  • And King Agrippa

Lots Wife
  • Gen 131, 6-11 Lot chose for himself and his
family to dwell in the land where Sodom and
    Gomorrah were.
  • Gen 19 17 Angels are dispatched to Lot and his
    family warning them to leave.
  • Lot and his wife were lead by the hand to leave
    before Gods judgment rained down.
  • Gen 19 24-26 The Lord destroyed Sodom and
    Gomorrah.
  • Lots wife disobeyed her instructions turning
back to see the destruction thereby being turned
    into a pillar of salt.
  • Lots wife could have used her second chance to
be a good influence on wicked people like Abraham
    and Sarah did.
  • Equally as important, her very presence in the
days that followed, could have prevented the
incestual encounter and preserved Lots lineage.
  • Lots wife chose to throw away the second chance
she was given for no real, identifiable, reason.

Judas Iscariot
  • Matt 10 1-4 Judas called by Jesus to be one of
    his 12 apostles.
  • Judas was close to Jesus even sitting beside him
at the Passover meal. Jesus later refers to
    Judas as Friend.
  • Matt 26 14-16 Judas meets with the chief priest
and agrees to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of
    silver.
  • Judas accompanies troops to the Brook Kidron in
    Gethsemane and identifies Jesus.
  • Judas realizes what he has done and is overcome
    with remorse.
  • Judas tries to return the blood money but cant
reverse what he has put into motion.
  • Jesus would have forgiven Judas for his deeds had
    he asked for his forgiveness.
  • Judas could have used his second chance to be
Christs advocate and to use his guilt and
remorse as motivation to bring others to
    salvation, as other apostles did.
  • Judas, however, chose not to ask for forgiveness
and instead to end his life.

King Agrippa
  • Paul is accused of being a plague, creator of
dissension, and leader of the followers of Jesus.
  • Paul is taken before Felix, who after hearing
Paul's testimony, procrastinates in his decision
concerning Paul for years and is replaced by
    Festus.
  • King Agrippa comes to visit Festus and asks to
    hear the testimony of Paul.
  • Acts 26 24-32 Paul preaches to King Agrippa
and recounts, his life, his strict devotion to
the scriptures and his conversion to Christ.
  • In Pauls preaching he identifies Jesus as the
fulfillment of the scriptures and prophecies and
    not a separate sect.
  • King Agrippa knew the scriptures and knew what
    was right.
  • Upon hearing the facts King Agrippa was forced to
    make a decision.
  • King Agrippas second choice in life was to
reject what the facts told him and to reject what
he knew was right and becoming a follower of
    Jesus.
  • King Agrippa uses Caesar as a crutch to not have
to face making the decision to free Paul.

7
King David
  • 2 Sam 112 David views Bathsheba bathing and
wants her as his own, sending messengers to get
    her.
  • David commits adultery with Bathsheba.
  • Bathsheba is with child.
  • David unsuccessfully conspires to have Uriah
believe that the child belongs to him, hiding his
    sin.
  • David has Uriah, Bathshebas husband, murdered.
  • David is confronted by the prophet Nathan and
    unknowingly convicts himself.
  • 2 Sam 12 13-15 David uses his second chance to
    repent and accept responsibility.
  • David remains faithful to God even though his
house is now in complete disarray as a result of
    his actions.
  • Psalms 32 5

8
The Apostle Peter
  • Jesus predicts that Peter will deny even knowing
    him. Matt 26 31-34
  • Matt 26 69-75Jesus is arrested and Peter is
questioned about his involvement where he denies
Christ 3 times as Jesus had predicted. Leaving
    with remorse and in tears.
  • Peter used his second chance to teach and bring
others to the truth and become a gospel preacher.
  • Peter suffered being imprisoned for Christ and
    never forsook Him again.
  • He went from a coward to courageous, impulsive to
humble, preaching the gospel to the gentiles .

9
The Apostle Paul
  • Saul persecutes the early church. Acts 8 1.
  • Jesus appears and speaks to Paul on the road to
    Damascus. Acts 9 4-9.
  • Ananias baptizes Paul. Acts 9 17-18.
  • Acts 9 20, 22Paul, immediately, begins preaching
the Gospel convicting, converting, and proving
that Jesus was the Son of God.
  • Paul used his second chance to convert any and
all he could to know and love Christ.
  • Paul faced and endured imprisonment and
    persecution.
  • He not only endured but tried to convert those
who held him captive. Acts 16 25-33.

Second Chances
  • We have all been given a second chance with our
lives. What choice are we going to make?
  • Our decision with our second chance boils down to
right and wrong, truth and error, good and bad.
  • As faithful Christians we are expected to make
our decisions based on what is right about our
decision and not about what might be wrong about
    it
  • Choosing to not make a stand and not make a
decision is the same as casting our vote for
    injustice and error.
  • King Agrippa
  • There is no grey area when it comes to deciding
what to do with our second chance.
  • Lots wife

Second Chances
  • Today is your opportunity to make a decision
  • Have you heard the word of God?
  • Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God?
  • Will you confess his name before men?
  • Will you inventory your life and your sins and
    repent, turn away, from them?
  • Will you decide today to be baptized for the
    remission of your sins?
  • Will you decide then to live faithfully?

12
Second Chances
  • Today is your opportunity to make a decision
  • Have you already been added to the Lords church?
  • Have you failed to stand up for what is right?
  • Have you looked back to your old life when you
should have been looking forward to the new?
  • Have you something in your life now that you know
is wrong and cant go back and do the right thing
    any longer?
  • Do you need to come back to the Lord after
    straying away?

13
Second Chances
  • Today is your opportunity to make a decision
  • We stand ready to assist you should you need to
    be baptized this day.
  • We stand ready to pray with you and for you if
you desire the prayers of the congregation.

14
THIS IS YOUR SECOND CHANCE!
  • Act on it now. Today may be the last chance any
    of us receive?
