Platelets are localized atoms at various scales,
locations, and orientations that can produce
highly accurate, piecewise linear approximations
to images consisting of smooth regions separated
by smooth boundaries. Platelets generalize
Donohos wedgelets and are capable of concisely
representing both smooth surfaces and edges.
