  • Lesson 2 Objectives
  • Know the three planes of movement
  • Be able to identify the joint actions that occur
    in the sagittal plane
  • Be able to analyse the Joint actions in all
    planes

3
Syllabus Section Unit 1 PHED1
  • joint actions,
  • Analysis of movement in specified sporting
    actions (including planes and axes)

4
Collect in Homework
  • Take in
  • Types of joint picture
  • Task 6.1 p 44
  • Check
  • Everyone knows the types of synoval joint
  • Everyone has read about planes axes P 44-45
    (Check later in the lesson)

5
  • Revision of bones
  • Dynamic Learning Activity

6
Types of Movement
  • Flexion reducing the angle at a joint
  • Extension increasing the angle at a joint.
  • Abduction moving away from the midline of the
    body
  • Adduction moving towards the midline of the body

7
Types of Movement
  • Horizontal Abduction moving the limb
horizontally away from the midline of the body
  • Horizontal Adduction moving the limb
horizontally towards the midline of the body
  • Plantar Flexion pointing the toes
  • Dorsi Flexion bring toes towards tibia.
  • Lateral Flexion Bending vertebral column to the
    side

8
Types of Movement
  • Rotation moving the bone around its long axis
  • Medial towards the midline of body
  • Lateral away from the midline of the body
  • Circumduction a combination of flexion,
    extension, abduction adduction
  • Pronation (Radio-ulna ) turning palm down
  • Supination (Radio-ulna ) turning the palm up

9
Extension
  • Eversion turning the foot laterally outwards
    (Breastroke foot action)
  • Inversion sole of the foot turned towards the
    midline of the body
  • Elevation Movement of the scapula upwards
  • Depression movement of the scapula downward

10
  • Dynamic learning check for Joint actions.

11
Planes Axes
Movements in each plane always pair up with an
axis Sagittal Plane Transverse Axis Frontal
Plane Frontal Axis Transverse Plane
Longitudinal axis
12
Homework
  • Make notes on the movements possible in the
    following planes
  • Sagittal(P45)
  • Frontal (P45/6)
  • Transverse(P46)
  • Complete Task 6.2 (P47)
