Title: International Collaboration Project Phase II Final Presentation

1
International Collaboration Project Phase II
Final Presentation
  • Sponsored by TNUA and Ministry of Economic Affairs

2
TNUA-UCCS-Denver Children Hospital Human Motion
Tracking for Rehab Project
  • Goal improve rehab patient care by applying
    Labanotation, computer modeling/animation
techniques, and wireless sensor tracking systems
for specifying and recording rehab exercises.

3
Project Team Members
  • Denver Children Hospital
  • Dr. James Carollo, Director of Center for Gait
    and Movement Analysis (CGMA)
  • Ms. Susan Kanai, Physical Therapy Expert
  • Ms. Jessica Davi
  • TNUA
  • Professor Yunyu Wang of TNUA and Colorado College
  • UCCS Computer Science
  • Professor Semwal Sudhanshu,
  • Professor Edward Chow
  • Dr. Kip Knight
  • Mr. Francisco Torres, Ph.D. Student
  • Mr. Michael Baswell, Master student
  • Ms. Deepti Reddy, Master student
  • Ms. Samarpita Hurkute, Master student

CGMA Lab Exercise Tracks Harness
7
Task 1. Identify and Record key Rehab Exercises
  • Mini-squats
  • Standing posterior pelvic tilt
  • Shoulder elevation with rotation
  • Standing hip abduction

8
Identify Safe Zone limiting exercise excursion
  • For Shoulder elevation with rotation exercise
  • Step Slowly, begin to elevate the right upper
extremity to shoulder height at the side of the
    body.
  • Safe Zone Limit The arm should end as close to
parallel to the ground as possible, creating a
90 ( 5 shoulder abduction angle. Also, the arm
should end in the frontal plane of the body,
    within 0 ( 5 front to back.
  • Safe zone guides exercises and alert patients

Task 2. Specify Exercises in Laban ?????
  • Provided Laban Clinic Session for UCCS Team
  • Identified the key rehab exercises with TCH Team
  • Advised UCCS Team on enhancing Laban for rehab
    exercises.

11
?????
  • Lead a UCCS group to explore the use of wireless
sensor network (WSN) based tracking system for
recording the rehab exercises and to examine the
    LabanDancer software for rehab
  • Mr. Francisco Torres examined LabanDancer,
    proposed new human motion specification/editing
    tool for rehab exercises.
  • Mr. Michael Baswell developed a WSN based
    tracking prototype

12
Laban Concise but Need Extension for Rehab
  • Start standing with equal weight distributed
    between right and left legs.
  • Place feet shoulder width apart.
  • Keep torso upright, avoid bending at the waist.
  • Slowly lower yourself by bending the ankles,
    knees, and hips.
  • Return to standing.

Reused notation?
13
Exercise d. Standing hip ABD (abduction)
  • Start standing with equal weight distributed
between the right and left legs
  • Slowly, shift your weight to the left side
  • Raise the right leg out to the side 12
  • Keep the right foot facing forward
  • Keep the torso upright and avoid leaning to the
    side
  • .

12
14
Task 4. Design rehab exercise specification/animat
ion tool
15
Dr. Semwal Sudhanshu
  • Dr. Jonathan Kip Knight developed a program that
given a few C3D data provide in real-time an
estimate of the joint location. Currently being
ported to Windows by Francisco Torres
  • Dr. Semwal performed research on Emotion
    communication/Motion Quality Modeling using
Earth, Fire, Water, Wind (EFW2) or similar
    concepts.

16
Salsa Dance
  • Joints data generated by Kip Knights software
  • This program can be used to quickly calibrate the
size of the rehab patient given a few sensor data

17
Task 5 Wireless Sensor Network for Recording
Rehab Exercises
  • Michael Baswell uses MIT Ultrasound Cricket
Sensors for human motion tracking prototype.

18
Conclusion
  • We have generated English description, video (3
angles), C3D, Labanotation for 4 key rehab
exercise and their safe zone for future
    research.
  • Proposed a software architecture for rehab
    specification/tracking system.
  • Implemented a program for fast calculation of
joints given a few time-3D data.
  • Preliminary analysis of Earth, Fire, Water, Wind
    concept for Emotion communication/Motion Quality
    Modeling
  • Developed a Cricket WSN based human motion
    tracking prototype.
